Small sample size, but he is shooting better - 15/28 over two games and 24/56 over the last four. 21 assists in the last three games, 27 in last four. I would like him to shoot 38% plus for the next four games, 40%+ the next four, and 42%+ the rest of the year. For assists, not have more than 3 games with three or fewer in a span of 7 games. Low expectations that may not be met, but I’d like. Before you say it, I do want better, just setting low expectations.

Why would I say that? I think those are medium expectations for assists. Not low.

I think those are high expectations for shooting, when it comes to the 42% part. That's a big jump over a large number of games. 2% is a lot.

I do agree he's shooting better, and shooting the right amount.

I would like him to shoot 10.9 shots a game like he did last year or less unless he’s going to shoot better than 39.1% like he did last year. You don’t get to expand your shots if you’re not taking better shot selection or making them better. But of course, that would be hard to enforce and I’m not the coach. I know that you can psych yourself out by limiting your shots, but geez, the coach has to be able to demand better than 32%. Or call better plays or have better teammates around him to get him more open shots. 32 percent’s my unguarded layup in a gym all by myself percentage. You can do better than that, George.

Not going to happen unfortunately. If you are a starter on a talent bereft team, you will shoot an average of 14 times.

Averaging less than 0.5 steals is embarrassing. Especially given the modern pace.

It would help if he could draw fouls, but he can't.

I should be able to watch tonight's game.

Did some meaningless layman analysis on Keyonte George’s shooting. This is what I found. (I was wondering if he was streaky or whether he shot more or less based upon how he was doing. I didn’t do any analysis on mid game things. I just wanted to see if he shot a lot more when he was making them.)

I combined all the games where he shot below 50% and those games he shot 50% or above. So for example, if he had three games in a row where he shot around 40%, that would be represented as three games and then I would total the made and total attempts.

I found that on games where he shot 50% or greater, he averaged 11.6 shots per game. In games that he shot less than 50%, he averaged 11.05. I excluded the game where he shot zero for two and got hurt. That lowers his average. it shows that he doesn’t shoot more or less based upon how he’s doing. Obviously, there could be a more in-depth analysis based upon how he starts a game. One could find that game that he starts out at 1-6 or worse, he could average only 10 attempts but when he starts out 2-6, maybe he averages 13 shots? I don’t know, but I’m not going to do that.

As far as streaks, he averages four games in a row shooting less than 50%. He averages 1.8 games in a row on games that he shoots 50% or greater. I excluded this last game in determine streaks because that lowers the average of 50% or greater. He could shoot 50% greater this next game and so therefore capping that is not fair.

I wonder what Stockton and Malone’s streaks are. But the only way for me to do that is if I found an easy way to compute. I don’t want to go through 3000 games. I could look at their first hundred games each, but I don’t know how relevant that would be because they played different positions than George. And to try to compare him to greats would be crazy or to compare him to those who play the same position is difficult because I don’t know if I be comparing him to a shooting guard or a point guard or what.

Just like I want to have someone who gets assists, I want to have a player who scores and shoots well at the shooting guard or point guard position. It is annoying to me the fact that outside of George is shooting 42.3% or so and that is an improvement from 39.1% last year. Still, this is without having a game of 50% or higher for the last eight games he’s played. I feel like he should have a higher percentage than my layups.
