While he hasnt been in the spotlight, Crabs has looked like a pro bowler with Kap, so its a give and take
Kaepernick's passes by direction this season NOT counting the Cardinals game yesterday (those numbers have not been posted yet):
Left - 37/60 (61.6%) for 431 yards, 3 TDs/1 INT
Middle - 45/65 (69.2%) for 547 yards, 1 TD/2 INTs
Right - 38/55 (69.1%) for 561 yards, 4 TDs/0 INTs
Across the middle he has the most completions, attempts, best completion percentage, but fewest TDs and most INTs. One's eye test could tell a better story about the kind of passer he is to all levels, but those are just the numbers for everybody.
Here are Kaepernick's numbers by direction among passes 10-20+ yards:
Left - 10/23 (43.5%) for 217 yards, 2 TDs/1 INT
Middle - 13/23 (56.5%) for 265 yards, 1 TD/2 INTs
Right - 15/22 (68.2%) for 352 yards, 2 TDs/0 INTs
I was intrigued by the distribution across the board among those passes. That's interesting.

No. It's more likely that Kaepernick hasn't developed any trust in VD
In the 3 games before Kaep took over against St. Louis Vernon Davis combined for 5 catches, 71 yards, and 0 TDs. His struggles extend to before Kaepernick became the starter, so I'm not sure it IS Kaep.
44% (11/25) of Vernon's targets by Kap were between the numbers. (3 between the Hash's)
47.2% (17/36) of Vernon's targets by Smith were between the numbers. (5 between the Hash's)
Look at Romo and Witten! He is always open in the middle!

True, but that's not necessarily a good thing. Teams that run their offenses through the TE usually do so because the QB isn't good enough to consistently get the ball to the WRs.

I agree but Vernon needs to be more of a threat than an eligible tackle! It will definately help on third down and the red zone!!

(Sarcasm alert) Conspiracy theory: Kaep knew this, so he refuses to throw to Davis (he's converted Walker to the receiver position). Then, he saw the criticism for Alex for lack of receiver play in the NFCC game, despite the yards to Davis and Gore, so he's pre-emptively passing to receivers only. Gore is getting fewer yards rushing for the same reason, to pump up the pass numbers. He's made the defense play worse so when he wins, he's not carried. Just kidding, I don't believe any of this. Though I know Kaep knows that he needs his receivers come playoff time. He knew that regardless.
Agree 100%. And I think it'll happen, but the last 2 weeks aren't a good indication of things to come because Vernon has had tweetie birds flying around his head blocking his view.
He needed the bye week as much as anyone IMO.
...well, maybe not as much as Cowboy Smith. Aldon needed the time off too IMO; he's been playing banged up.
Unfortunately, I think Aldon & Justin are the most & second most important players on the team respectively, and they're both banged up. Here's hoping they have enough left to win 3 more games!
