I think something to keep in mind with this pick is who is in our division. Barron talked about how in college Texas would even use him against TE's if that is where they needed him. He covered Colston Loveland when they played Michigan at times when needed. So when you think of a guy like Bowers playing that slot TE or McConkey for the Chargers or even Worthy (who he practiced against a lot) then this move helps shut down the #1 option of all 3 of our division rivals.

Part of my calculus for making Barron my first pick was the fact that the Eagles first two picks last year were corners. We all see how that turned out and this is a copy cat league. I also felt like with the depth at running back in this draft, the front office could take their shot in a different direction with the 20 pick. I would love to know what the Broncos big board looks like. This was probably BPA. And it could’ve been someone else had they fallen?
I can’t wait to see what the rest of the draft holds for the Denver Broncos. Keep faith in the process!

From what I understand Broncos had him right around the 10th best player in this draft. They really had 0 of their own mock drafts they did before the draft where Barron fell to them at pick 20. Teams were calling and the Broncos had some really good offers on the table for pick 20, but Barron was the only player left that was even a top-15 player in the draft on their board and they couldn't believe such a talent would be available.

I saw those clocks winding down a long ways between 15 and 20. I felt maybe the phone lines were burning up with quarterback-needy teams trying to leapfrog the Steelers. When the Broncos clock went deep, I had a little doubt there were offers to consider.
Then, to the Steelers credit, they likely chose the BPA on their big board. Despite their own quarterback hunger pangs. That’s how you make your team stronger.

BPA the rest of the way (more or less). :D

Teams have made it clear there are no QB's beyond Cam Ward that was loved in this draft. They like Dart and we will still see how things fall for Sanders. Teams were definitely calling in that 15-20 range. Heck Bills made an offer to the Broncos because they wanted Barron. The 1st round graded players were running out for a lot of teams in that 15-20 range so they were starting to get a bit desperate to move up and get someone they viewed as actual value. For my own personal board I had 1st round grades left on Campbell, Simmons, Starks, and Harmon. I was borderline with Harmon since a lot of medical issues showed up publicly over the last couple of weeks. Hampton and Henderson were right on that edge for me.
