No RBs early!!!

Build the goddamned trenches!

100% agree.

But...if BJ and RP think Braxton is good to go and is gonna start....they are gonna take a different position.

I'd take a CB, EDGE, or S over a RB/TE/WR. But that's just me.

So you would be into reaching for a late first talent, early second talent instead of a blue chip player? Now every mock coming out has Kenneth Grant going top 7-8 picks. Edge guys are all suspect in a 4-3 set up, as the bigger DE's are low sack producers at the college level. The two best DE's for sacks are under 6'3 and light in size at 240-250 lbs. More like one would get in a 3-4 set up. Tackles of note will be unavailable at 10, Cambell short arm and Membou (just plain short) and a banged up Simmons (knee). So you're thinking reach for 6'3 Tackle? or someone with a knee?

Here's a write up from WCG over some of the safeties for draft consideration:

I'm pretty much convinced that the safety position will be addressed at some point in this draft. The question is which pick?

Q: Would you as an armchair GM make this trade?

A: Fuckin' A, Bubba.

That would be a great trade for us,but I think NE would want something better than to trade the firsts, our no.41 this year and next years 3rd.......
NE would probably laugh at us.

Yeah no doubt that seemed to be a Bears-centric trade offer. Technically from the draft chart value standpoint, it holds up, but we know the value charts aren't an end all when it comes to trades.

In no way should we give up picks. We need all of our picks.

If we were at 4 and NE came to you with that trade, would you do it.....??
I sure as in the hell would not.

In no way should we give up picks. We need all of our picks.

Ya,I hate trading up.....seems like it always bites you in the ass.

No, I would not do that trade if it was the other way around.

And normally I'm 100x more for trading back than up, but Carter is the one exception, and only if the trade played out as proposed. And we both agree that the Pats would not agree to those terms. So it's a moot point. I only posted it to add a little spice to the conversation.

Ima BPA guy, but I just don't think it's a position that warrants a high pick, save for a generational talent here and there. If Jeanty is somehow there? Sure, but otherwise, I'd prefer a big ugly lineman.

The Eagles SB run is making teams rethink the RB position.

Which is sad because without the Eagles being so dominant on both sides of the line of scrimmage these is no way they win the SB.

A nice read/analysis of the Bears top 5 remaining needs going into the draft:

For the lazies:
1. Defensive Line
2. Running Back
3. OL Depth/possible starting LT
4. Safety
5. Linebacker

Honorable mentions:
TE 2 and WR 3 or 4

I'd have probably labeled the article as the top 4 needs, placing the linebacker spot in with the honorable mentions. Regardless, we have four picks in the first three rounds where we should be able to find quality depth, if not starters - certainly four players who should easily make the roster, that is if Poles & co do their homework correctly. An argument can be made that each of those top 4 needs can be represented respectively in those three rounds. Of course things almost never work out as projected, so we'll have to hurry up and wait to see how it all plays out later this month.

BearsWire has put together their top 5 OL & Edge potential draftees in separate articles:

Pretty much the usual suspects, with a decent chance that one of these ten will be our #10 pick. And a few of these names could easily remain on the board when we get to our 39th & 41st picks.
If I'm a betting man and he's still there at 10, I'm going with Will Campbell.

BearsWire has also put together their top 5 DT potential draftees:

I'd like to think one of these talents should still be on the board at 39 or 41, assuming Poles wants to take one within his top 3 picks.

Grant at 10? Bit of a reach but he is sky rocketing up draft boards. Not sure if Nolan would be there at pick 39, but if so, that would also work out well. This will be a very interesting draft from 1-9. Lot of "experts" are all over the place with those selections and depending upon how that all falls out (trades), will depend upon who is available at 10 for selection.

Again, I don't like any of the top tier "tackles" in the draft, that are not injured their final collage year (Simmons) as they all "seem' to project as Guards again, according to "experts" of which I am not one.

Time for another update - as in I'm bored:

10. Kelvin Banks, Jr. - OT, Texas - Going on the assumption that Will Campbell and Armand Membou are off the board by the time we pick. Iron man Kelvin's a worthy 3rd choice.
39. Quinshon Judkins - RB, Ohio State - Might be more interested in his teammate TreVeyon Henderson, but chances are he'll be gone by 39. Don't mind sloppy seconds here at all.
41. Jack Sawyer - Edge, Ohio State - Loves me some of them Ohio State alumni. Sawyer checks all the boxes for a Dennis Allen DE/pass rusher.
72. Alfred Collins - DT, Texas - Yes, another Longhorn. Large, strong, yet fast. He's a Rd 2 talent, but hoping his age (24) is considered a detriment to some GMs and he falls to us at 72.

As much as I want a safety with one of the top four picks, it's possible Poles & co will try to find a later round hidden gem while focusing more on the trenches. Many talented safeties do tend to fall by the wayside in favor of other positions. It wouldn't surprise me if Judkins and Sawyer's draft spots are swapped.

The case for going OL with our first pick:

And honestly it makes sense. If Braxton Jones has a killer season, he'll demand a killer contract, which = big money for a number of years. Doubt even under this circumstance the Bears will want to fork out that kind of coinage. If he plays well or just ok, but not enough to warrant a pricey, long term contract, then we likely let him walk, leaving us with a huge void at the all important LT spot.

I'm still quite down with grabbing Jeanty at 10, assuming he's there, which is pretty much considered unlikely. And we have to prepare for the possibility of Poles going with whoever might be his BPA at that point, meaning we can't rule out players from other positions. The good news on either of these equations is there will still be some solid OL talent available at 39 or 41. But if we want to play it safe, take no chances and grab the highest rated OT remaining at the 10th spot, then taking one will be our best course.

Nice list of Day 2 edge rushers from BGO:

It was widely reported prior to last year's draft that this year's would be loaded with DE/Edge talent, and that assessment has lived up to expectations. Altho the edge remains a position of need for the Bears, I've felt the depth of talent in this pool allows us the luxury of waiting until our two picks in Rd 2 or even our spot in Rd 3 before grabbing one. Those five stated here, amongst others are perfect examples of why patience could very well pay off. All five bring some real talent and of them, perhaps only Burch could still be around by the time we pick at 72. So the sweet spots for taking one would be 39 or 41.

You just gotta love Sports Mockery. I fondly consider them as the rumor capital of local sports media. Here are three, count 'em three articles nested in the same daily release, each pointing to who our pick at 10 could be:

In a way, each of them makes sense, especially the first two. Signs are pointing to the Bears bolstering the OL, especially in lieu of the possibility/likelihood of not having Braxton Jones around next year. I continue to believe that if Campbell is still on the board at 10, he's our guy. But Banks makes for a satisfying alternative.

OTOH, I've mentioned several times if Poles/Johnson are hellbent on taking a RB at 10, Hampton is the clear cut choice# 2 to fill that spot. It appears that the RB position is pretty deep this year, so there should be some quality talent still on the board for one of our two 2nd rd picks. Still, we can't rule out the Bears taking Hampton that soon.
