Isnt Simmons the one with the supposefly short arms that will move to guard from tackle because of it......or is that someone else.....
That’s practically everyone else in the first round. Simmons is the prototypical LT. Banks and Campbell have short arms.

I like this article on Trey Smith......

KC does not have much for cap........Trey very well could be for the taking.....

Not sure he commands the top salary for iol,but hey,hes started every SB for KC and seems not to be missing games due to injuries......Id be down for that.....not missing games is worth its wright in gold.

Jonathon Allen of Washington has adked for a trade.....interesting.
He could be had for a 3rd imo.......

Nah...Let's just get some jag bodies for cheap. Caleb will fix himself and we're good.

So far, this is who Poles and Johnson have met prior to tomorrow's combine:

Georgia Edge, Mykel Williams
UCLA LB, Kain Medrano
Auburn Edge/OLB, Jalen McLeod
Oregon DT, Jamaree Caldwell
Boise St RB, Ashton Jeanty

Not sure if any other potential draftees have been met or will meet prior to the combine. Williams and Jeanty are 1st round candidates, no idea where the others rank.

So you think we dont need any olineman.....??

Not sure what you mean.

jag = just a guy

If folks think the majority of our issues with pass protection last season lay with Caleb Williams, then he's already a bust and the pain is coming.

Pretty sure the Tevin Jenkins prove it deal was last years deal. And he proved he could not remain available. He wont go down as a Mike Brown, but its the same deal, you gotta move on.
Last year Kiran was not going to be available, being hurt his final season in college, then not available for camp. I am fine to let Jones and Kiran battle it out for the left side and start at both spots there. I dont know how that is going to happen when the sign three free agents to start in the middle.

Pretty sure most of the top 5 are all deemed as short armed this year. Pretty sure that is good for us since we are looking for interior guys, the character part is going to play large for those guys, someone who knows up front he is being drafted to play guard.

Been waiting for a Bears mock from a local rag that has our team trading back:

This one features two trade backs that result in a couple of extra picks for us, including an additional 2nd rounder. Normally when mocks feature trade backs, they don't give a reason or mention a coveted player as to why the other team is trading up. This one does, at least it does for the 1st trade back. If this played out exactly as suggested, that would pretty cool. Which means it probably won't happen.

I was hoping there was a team with two later first rounders to trade 10 for, but it does not exist yet. Yet because maybe another deal trades back and then will want to trade back up. But I also think Ben Johnson is talking up Swift to make it sound like he has plans and people might give up more to get him. I mean, you think Ben had a say in replacing him with Monty and drafting Gibbs, right? Definitely a tactic we have not seen for some time in Chicago. I dont know what Swift gets in a deal, thinking it would be more of a third or fourth. He was always that change of pace guy, he needs to be that change of pace guy, not just the starter because he is overpaid.
I think you focus on one offensive and one defensive guy if you are thinking about trading down and if neither are available, you make the move. Interior offensive lineman at 10 needs to be an all pro immediately type of player.

1. Not enough oline help. I like Jackson, but we need at least 2 players that will start soon from this draft, not any projects.
2. This draft isn’t too top heavy. We have traded back so the other team can draft Bryce Young (projected best QB in the draft and first overall) and Jalen Carter. I don’t see a prospect like those being available at 10 this year.

The mock was based on the assumption that the Bears would sign two offensive linemen in free agency. Otherwise, I'd agree, by itself the mock doesn't cover enough of the OL. But with those two signings, it still provides for an OL, yet also addresses other areas of need.

There are very few blue chippers in this draft. The only one of these who might still be on the board at 10 is Jeanty. If we're stocked due to free agency signings, I'd of course be open to taking him. But I'm also very open to Poles trading back if he can find the right partner.

I still don’t think it’s enough. This offseasons main priorities are
1. oline
2. Oline
3. Oline
4. Oline
5. DLine.

I think we need at least four startable players added this offseason.

Two articles here, both from Windy City Gridiron make for good reading:

It's assumed by just about everyone and his grandmammy that Poles has to all but have the OL & DL issues resolved for us to have the luxury of taking Jeanty at 10. And that's an awfully tall order to fill. However, if we're to hold off on taking a RB with one of our two 2nd round picks, Omarion Hampton would make for a pretty damn good substitute. Plus there are other talented RBs who should be available when we're on the board.

I'm becoming more intrigued by the day for Poles to trade back the 10th pick, but again as always, easy to say, but which team would be willing to bite. In a draft where there are few blue chippers, is there really a chance there's someone still on the board at 10 that a team wants bad enough to trade up, likely surrendering a 2nd round pick in doing so? Who knows.

God...We were talking about trading back from 9 ALL OFFSEASON last year too...It never ends.

While it was always a possibility, I never gave serious thought to the Bears trading back at 9. This year is different, there aren't enough blue chippers to say we must stay put at 10. On the flip side, if there aren't enough blue chippers for us to stand pat, what makes teams trading behind us suddenly feel the need to trade for our spot. All I'm getting at is if for whatever reason Poles can find a willing trade partner and depending on the offer, I'd be fine with taking this route.
