Carter is on the list of too small for this defense list. What he did at 260 works great for a 3-4. Pearce at 243 might be able to replace Edmunds when he leaves. This was the Shea McClellan problem. Instead of seeing if the guy could have been the next urlacher, he was told to get to 285. The guys that use Parsons and Verse are allowing them to roam free and building a defense around him. We have Hardy and Booker as 2 260 pound DE's that already do not play enough. Only the Texas A&M guys fit the bill for a quick spot.
I dont know if they resign Sanborn, who was used so incorrectly last season. Great run stopper, firm pass on coverage, and they have him chasing running backs in coverage with those two stud cover linebackers in Edwards and Edmunds playing the short zone and spy games.
I really hope Allen looks at the talent and tries to make the defense fit the skills. Thats how the great defenses are born. Then your picks are spot on. But if he comes in here like Fangio did, its going to be a long year waiting for the roster to turn over. We can only hope that Allen saw how Fangio learned his lesson.

And again, if Campbell ends up a starting guard for us, was 10 too high to pick a guard?

If who we pick at 10 ends up being an all-pro caliber player, then no it isn't too high to pick a guard.

I will say this: If we pick the Jeanty guy...He better be f*cking awesome. I mean...Crazy f*cking awesome.

I doubt we pick him...I guess it's possible if we make multiple o-line upgrades in Free Agency.

I feel there will be a lot of movement during this draft. Quite a few teams with top 10 picks need a QB (Titans, Browns, Giants, Raiders, Jets, Saints). But the word is that most QB in this class are not 1st round caliber. I think that may add some panic to the QB-needy teams.

Does one of these teams go after Darnold? Does Atlanta trade (or even release) Cousins? Raiders, Jets and Titans also have new GMs.

Re: Jeanty
My wild card is Jerry Jones. Does he trade Dak? Does he move up to grab Jeanty? Maybe both?

Should be fun to watch.

I said it previously, I think we pretty much have to be all but set at the OL in the free agency period if we're to take Jeanty at #10. Seems like a pretty tall order to complete that task. Most of the recent mocks have the 'Boys taking Jeanty with the 12th pick.

As for the movements prior to the draft, it seems every year as we get closer and closer, the QBs tend to climb the boards. I saw one mock where 3 were taken before we select. That would definitely work in our favor. I'm rooting for as many QBs & WRs as possible to be chosen prior to our turn.

I think you have to take a stab at drafting Caleb Williams blind side protection with the first pick. I think we should really consider Simmons. He’s clearly the best in the draft and I think he can get over the injury. He could be future cornerstone of a very good OLine. I don’t think we will get an opportunity at this calibre of OLine again during Caleb’s career.

He's the top rated defensive player on just about every sports site list, and the DE/Edge position is one of the spots we need to address at some point this offseason/draft, which is why I have him ranked #1. Then again the chances are 100% that he'll be long gone before we pick. Still, I want to stay true to my BPA.

The dude was insane vs. Notre Dame. I know it's only one game but ball don't lie. He looks like he's gonna be good. Also, justa's takes are always off the beaten road. I guess he finds hidden gems with that approach every now and again.

well, not many are going to want the top 10 slot money for a QB not rated a first rounders, but moving down to get to the back end of the first round is a place that teams want to move up to so they can have the 5th year option option.

I would much rather have the draft first and free agency second, but I agree, the starting spots on the line are going to be defined thru free agency. I just hope its a center to play center and guards to play guards, not another guard they will expect to be the starting center.

If there is a run on OLB's and its already up to the Texas A&M boys, then I sure hope they go there. I am not sure if Sweat is going to be Sweat we paid anymore. I guess we see what happens with Poles this year. Starting to think he is never going to draft our offensive line, if he has more misses than hits this year I sure hope its the last draft for him.

Almost every mock I see has him taken in the top 5, with many taking him in the top 3. So yeah, like you said, ball don't lie.

2-3 QB's will go before we pick...Probably 2 but you never know. Bo Nix moved up a sh*t ton last year and with a smaller crop this year a 3rd could sneak in before us.

We'll have some good options at 10.

Banks, Campbell or Simmons all looks like viable options. I think we opt for one of the former 2 though. Banks is my gut pick...but Campbell looks like one of those crazy mother f*ckers that wants to kill people on the field. Kind of what I thought Teven Jenkins would be before injuries (and probably having his unit be the target of all fan/media ire for years...much less the nonstop losing) just stopped him cold.

I don’t doubt that they can be beasts, but they aren’t NFL OTs. Campbell and Banks looks more like guards. Simmons can play Guard, but will be LT when he’s 100% and a very good one at that.

I still think this sub's regs VASTLY underestimate how much Ryan Poles likes our tackles. Do I think Braxton Jones is all-world? Hell no...but I won't believe he's replaced as our mainstay LT until I see it.

I tend to agree with this. Jones seems by all metrics to be at best an average LT, and even that might be a bit of a stretch. But it does seem like Poles likes him. And perhaps more importantly, he's playing on the final year of his rookie contract, so it's not like his spot on the roster prevents the Bears from going after pricier free agents.

One year left on Jones deal just gives you more leeway to bring in a LT like Simmons and have him play G the first season until he’s ready. Then we draft another G next year.

I would bet the farm we aren't drafting a pure LT and playing him at guard for a season. The switch from G to LT is pretty hard. This Simmons kid would have to be a prodigy to make that kind of move in season 2 after learning interior for a full season.

If anything they would move Braxton inside.

*doubt*

I don’t think Braxton can play G at a high level. Simmons has the size to succeed at G. I think it suites him better to play NFL G before LT rather than just going straight to LT. Especially after such an injury. The only reason we have a shot at him and he’s not seen like Abdul Carter (a player we have no shot at) is because of his injury. Had he stayed healthy, he’s a joe alt level prospect imo.
