This mock has the Jets and Raiders taking OL when neither may have a starting QB. Cant argue over the philosophy but i wonder if that need changes since both franchises will have a new GM and HC.

That could benefit the Bears if one or both pull the trigger on a QB.

I think the Raiders and Jets are both gonna be in the running for either Justin Fields or Russell Wilson, whichever one of them the Steelers decide they aren't going to keep. There's probably a chance the Steelers could sign Wilson to a 1 year deal and Fields to a long one....but if Fields wants to play now he's gonna go to the Raiders or Jets.

There are a lot of scouts and GMs that seemingly don't believe this is a good QB class.

well the ones that are about to hit free agency are also going to profit from the latest contracts. They thought McCaffery would move the market, it really didnt, then Saquan got paid and David Montgomery got another extension for 18 million over 2 seasons this time, and he still had a year left at 6 million. He had an out or one year at 9.25 million, but is now locked up at 9 million for the next 3 seasons.

We had Monty, had Herbert, had Roshan, all were productive. What happened? Monty left, then Herbert and Johnson should have been battling for the carries, but Poles swoops in with Swift and just destroyed that running back room. Nobody seems to have the story of what happened with Herbert, so I guess its up to us to assume again. Flame away boys or give me some valid answer or get over yourselves and just block me already..

I will take drafting a running back, but if they do not draft an actual center this time, I have no hope Poles will ever do anything right. Got the QB and HIS REQUEST at WR, time for RB and C and a couple guards Caleb can see over.
I think Shelton actually played pretty well this year, once he settled in. PFF ranks him 19 out of 64.

Wright is really the only one that is safe tho. At minimum they need competition across the board and depth.

He definitely got better down the stretch than he started off. It was awful in beginning and even when he got better you could count on 1 to 3 plays a game where he just shat the bed.

The problem with Shelton and the entire Bears line is they can't get the short yardage push you need. 3rd and 1 might as well be 3rd and 20 if you want to run. Any defense that packs the A gap is pushing that line backwards.

I would welcome Sheton back as depth.

Wright is really the only one that is safe tho. At minimum they need competition across the board and depth.

Jones may have been safe without his injury. For some reason Poles is convinced the guy is a legit NFL LT. I would disagree. Not sure what BJ thinks. But his injury probably removes him from minicamps at least. And it has to prompt the Bears to at least look for competition if not all out replacement.

I have mixed feelings on Jenkins. I like the kid. But he's inconsistent and health is a concern. If they do retain him they can't overpay.

I am excited at the possibility that BJ is finally the coach that says this is where we need to build first. Coming out of Detroit he has to appreciate what a good offensive line means.

It's crazy how many holes we have going into this offseason.

We need to fill C, 2 G's, DE, DT with starter-capable players.

Then more depth on both lines, WR, DB (especially if Brisker is no longer available).

Lotta work to do.

That's why the free agent period is just as important as the draft, if not more so. Too many holes to fill banking on just one, we need both. But a good start would be in addressing as much as feasable by signing some talent come March. This way Poles and his crew will have a much better idea on how to address the draft.

Yeah, I would never want us to draft a RB (especially at #10). That being said, Gibbs is what happens when you combine a great offensive line/scheme with a generational RB.

Make no mistake, Gibbs is special. I love watching that kid run. Yes, though, I agree with what you're saying.

I could see one 3rd or 4th rd possibly, but even then Im not for it.....
Drafting Jeanty is just a luxury pick that we dont have......

Somebody is going to reach for him early. Ben talked about his belief that the game is won in the trenches one each side and mentioned going to work on both offensive and defensive line. I would be surprised and disappointed if it is us who reaches.

(Not going to say that it wouldn't be interesting, though... he's a fun player)

Posting this list because Poles & co tend to lean on Senior Bowl players in the draft and UDFAs:

Only a couple seemingly worthy of a 1st round pick, but a boatload for the 2nd & 3rd rounds, where we have three picks nested there, and perhaps a compensatory 3rd as well if Cunningham gets inked by the Jaguars for their GM spot.

Interesting, Bears Wire gives us an article here where various sports sites predict who the Bears will take with the 10th pick, and none of them mention the same player:

The cool part is every player stated here would be a sensible choice, with the possible exception of RB Ashton Jeanty, and even he'd make sense if Poles were to kill it in free agency. One thing I'm sure we'll be seeing as the draft draws closer are the scenarios where we trade back and what we could get in return for doing so. Under no circumstances do I see us trading UP with our 10th pick.

Ive never been a fan of trading up to begin with, nor trading down......especially this year being we got our qb in place....
I would love to see a top draftee in oline or dline......this is a must need.
We got 3 picks in first 41....lets get the top of the line.

Poles stated that he expects Brisker back for 2025, but missing the majority of a season due to a concussion certainly raises eye brows. I would love to know what that was all about.

I'll be curious to see what we do at WR with Allen (seemingly) gone. I mean, I certainly feel that we're going to hand Odunze more of a key role.

I feel that this offense has really missed having a vertical threat for some time now. I anticipate that we'll bring in someone to fill that "Jameson Williams" role in Ben Johnson's offense to go along with Moore/Odunze.

Jeanty would be kind of eye roll inducing, IMO.

That being said... even though I am a card carrying "RB's don't really matter" guy? I'm not going to sit around and act like it wouldn't be kind of exciting to land a RB like Jeanty.

I think we get a starter at G and C from FA. I think we get a good shot at a quality player at DT, DE, and OG from the draft.

I’m kind of the same. I wouldn’t draft him personally, but I probably wouldn’t boo it either.

Depending on all the variables, I'd be open to trading back. A lot of if & but scenarios would have to be factord in, but I could see Poles pulling one off. And if not with the 10th pick, perhaps dangling one or both of our 2nd rounders.

I mentioned previously that if Poles by chance fills most of our major holes thru free agency, I'd certainly be open to taking someone like Jeanty with the 10th pick. But that's a tall order. One thing to monitor in the coming weeks is how much cap space Poles can open up thru a combination of cuts and/or contract restructuring. I've seen current figures ranging from 50+mil - 70mil of cap space. If anyone has a more precise figure, please lay it on us.

We aren't trading up.
With Poles it's never say never, but I trust most, if not all of the Bears fandom are against trading up, at least against trading up the 10th pick. If Poles was to receive an offer too good to pass up for trading back, I'd certainly be open to that. And he does have a history of using his middle round picks for trading up - again, I'd at least be open to this.

I'm also in principle against trading picks for an established player. We don't have the upfront talent nor the depth to be siphoning off picks for a vet. There is one exception tho based on a suggested trade in one of the local online rags that had the Bears offering a 2nd and a 4th to the Bengals for Trey Hendrickson. Altho I'm not sure the Bengals would bite on this, there are stories that he's not happy with their lack of offering an extension. He's currently signed thru '25 at $15.8m, technically making him a one year rental. I'd like to think that any team, including the Bears, that would be willing to give up draft capital for a rental, would also have intentions of giving him a pricey extension.

Here's a full 7 round Bears draft from analyst Jacob Infante:

What I like about this draft take is Infante factoring in advance that he believes the Bears will have previously invested in the trenches thru free agency. As much as I'd like to see Poles use his first pick on one of the talented OL, in which at least one of whom should still be on the board at #10, Graham would be awfully hard to pass up. He's the top DT in pretty much all mocks & prospect analytics. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he's grabbed before it's our turn to pick. Versatile Arizona G/OT Jonah Savaiinaea at #39 would fit nicely inside, and Ole Miss Edge Princely Umanmielen makes for a solid #41 pick - altho if either Marshall's Mike Green or the gargantuan Landon Jackson out of Arkansas are still on the board at that point (unlikely), I'm a bit more intrigued with Poles taking one of them instead.
