They shouldn't have scrapped the team draft and elam ending. The games with that the last handful of years have actually been somewhat competitive by All Star standards. It's never gonna be anything special competition wise, nor should it for injury reasons, but those features did inject some life to it.

I agree about the draft but disagree about the elam ending. I think we only had one fun competitive ending since they went to the elam ending.

At least the NBA All Star Game is better than the Pro Bowl.

You'd think it would make some sense for a team to send a player to the other conference (personally I think you should just make the best deal regardless), but that wasn't Karl's reasoning either. Melo mentioned in the interview after Karl squashed the Lakers deal pretty much out of spite to Melo, he tried pushing to send Melo to Utah in a deal based around Derrick Favors, which if we're talking best deals, I don't really see how you could make a Utah offer better than anything else offered. Karl just really liked Favors, saw him as a better version of Nene according to Melo so that's why he was big on it. But Melo, being an impending free agent, wasn't gonna re-sign with Utah so that fell apart. Then they started looking East at Brooklyn and New York. I could buy the logic of Karl not wanting to do the Lakers deal, even if it was a fair deal, so as to not send Melo to a fellow Western competitor if he only focused on Eastern teams. But since he was engaging other Western teams shows it wasn't really about competition. Karl didn't want to give Melo what he wanted so he squashed a deal the Nuggets FO had in place, which I think may have been Ujiri as GM at the time (he came on some time around 2010 to 2012, too lazy to look it up).

this is of course all according to Melo lol

did you just compare Utah to LA lol

I don't know how you all watch it lol

Mychal Thompson has a good idea. Instead of a game, make it an All Star Dinner. Fans can listen to the players talking about basketball and whatever, and we get to watch them eat.

Maybe have the players go to the host city's best restaurant chain, who will also be the All Star Dinner sponsor.

I don’t think much is wrong with the all star game when you really think about it. The game just became super high scoring due to the style of play change we have in the league now. Teams are shooting 3s more than ever so that translate over to the AS game then when you had in the minimal defense effort then this is what we did. If teams were attempting the same amount of 3s they did 8-10 years ago, the scores of these games would look much different.

I guess Curry broke basketball. Also, the game is what it is. It's an exhibition game. I rarely watched it before and I almost never watch it now.

The last place team in 3 pt attempts is at over 30 attempts per game.

Go back to the 2014-2015 season for example, the leader in 3 pt attempts was at just under 33 attempts while the last place team attempted 15 per game.

Defense was never played in the AS game unless it was a close game in the 4th but now these guys are shooting a ridiculous amoung of 3s in this game so the #s look crazy

Yep the all star game isn't for me anymore. They should be more focused on figuring out the dunk contest mess rather than try to fix this game

So bothered.

No seriously you were kidding right?
ill admit to only casually following the situation as its not a player on a team that im a fan of. The talking heads on all the big networks have pointed to he hasnt fared as well as the bucks would have hoped. his numbers are down from what they were in portland. so sure i mentioned the all star game perfomance as being the dame they thought they were getting. not to say that he has been bad by any means.

Fun ASG 2024 fact...there were 3 personal fouls called the whole game, 2 on the West, 1 on the East

Name the players for bonus points

The three point contest was the best thing. It's weird to have players who aren't currently in the NBA in the dunk contest, but I get it. Many NBA players don't do the dunk contest anymore.
