Still Codaxx, AU went 3-9 and that team was absolutely terrible. Our last two teams that went 9-4 and 8-5 would have stomped a mud hole in that 3-9 team; that's how bad 2012 AU was. Our current talent, which is considered average to below average, is still better than that 3-9 AU team. I'm not predicting NC by any means, but no reason why this team shouldn't compete for a conference title or a quality bowl game.....

That team quit though. They actually had talent. It may happen, but I am a believer in odds. The odds aren't with Texas to make the playoffs. Would be great, but unlikely, especially with tonight's news

Agent bot 2 players a meal. It was immediately reported by the University. Just 1 meal, but it is the NCAA. If it was an agent at least one has to be a legit player

As long as it wasn't Daje or Malcolm Brown. I have a feeling Daje is going to explode this year and Brown is going to be one of the best RB's in the country by year's end as long as our OL can find a pair.

bought a couple of meals :L

Unless it was some Brazilian steakhouse or something fancy like that, who cares? And it was self reported immediately. Stong is going to beat those guys senseless, no use NCAA piling on. How about making em each miss an organized team practice? ANything more than that is stupid, for two meals that were probably valued at $20 or less.

I wouldn't be surprised if Strong made an example out of them. He seems like a no nonsense type of guy and take the opportunity to let the team know where he stands.

We'll see.

yup, I imagine the repercussions will start at running till you puke. I bet he sidelines them for the first half of game 1 too, if this is all true. Not because he has to, but because it will set a no-BS attitude...especially if it is a starter/star.

Make them donate the cost of the meal to a charity, and Charlie I'm sure will address the players with some sort of punishment. Scary part is you just never know what the NCAA will do. Sometimes they do nothing and sometimes the player suddenly is forever ineligible.

Cant remember the name of that Oklahoma State player that did just about the same thing a few years ago, and poof, the NCAA said he was done forever.

that is the issue. It was Dez. He got caught lying. That seems to be the real crime to the NCAA. I do not think this is a major issue, but the NCAA has shown itself to be quite arbitrary. It also hands out punishment, not for the crime, but for the cooperation or lack of it. We will see where this goes, but it can be anywhere to half a game to a season.

It was this little guy named Dez Bryant. He's kind of a big deal in the NFL lol

Dez Bryant lied and tried to hide his dinner.

The NCAA punished him for lying, not the minor violation itself.

Maybe, but quite a few have gotten off completely free for lying their asses off lately because the NCAA apparently needs a signed confession for some things and not others. Hard to tell a kid to be honest when that is the case. The NCAA is the king of mixed messages.

For the record I still believe Dez Bryant got one of the most unfair punishments handed out in recent memory. Outside of USC compared to other programs punishments.

Agent boasts about having dinner with 4 Longhorns on Twitter | Bevo Beat | www.statesman.com

By Brian Davis

Texas officials have yet to confirm the names of two players who could face NCAA penalty for accepting meals from a sports agent. However, one St. Louis-based agent boasted on Twitter about having dinner with four Longhorns in late March.

Justin Bingman, who represents former Texas lineman Mason Walters, tweeted on four occasions that he had dinners with defensive end Cedric Reed (March 22), defensive tackle Desmond Jackson (March 23), linebackers Steve Edmond and Jordan Hicks (March 24).

The site Orangebloods.com found the tweets late Tuesday. The American-Statesman attempted to contact Bingman after 10 p.m. All the tweets involving Texas football players — including those four — appear to have been deleted sometime after 11 p.m.

Bingman did not return messages left by the American-Statesman.

“Just had a great dinner with @Ced_Reed88 He and his dad are great guys!” Bingman tweeted on March 22.

“Had dinner with @TexasBoy99tank and his Dad last night. They are both great guys and looking forward to the next time,” he tweeted about Jackson on March 23.

The next day, Bingman tweeted, “Had dinner with @SteveBigMoney33 last night, MLB for Texas. We all had a great time with many stories. #Longhorns”

Bingman’s next tweet read: “Just had dinner with a great young man that is going to do great this year for Texas @JHicks_3 #Longhorns #LonghornsNation”

All four players were underclassmen at the time, and all four returned for their senior seasons. It’s unclear who paid for the meals, but if the agent paid for the dinners, that’s considered a NCAA violation. All four players would appear to have their eligibility in jeopardy.

The American-Statesman first reported Tuesday that two unnamed players had accepted meals from an agent and that school officials reported the violation to the NCAA. A university spokesman said that Texas was working through the normal procedures.

In previous NCAA situations, players have been allowed to make restitution for small amounts, like a meal, and receive a minor penalty — perhaps a one-game suspension.

It’s also unclear how Texas coach Charlie Strong will handle the situation. He isn’t scheduled to meet with reporters until Tuesday at Big 12 media day.

Interestingly, he was not an agent at the time of the dinners. He did not get his license in the state of Texas until the following month, so technically he was not an agent. Posting the dinners on twitter shows his competence as an agent. Seems likely it will be a minor issue, mostly because it was self-reported.
