Texas recruiting is not going well under Charlie Strong.

I have to admit it. This article from Burnt Orange Nation stunned me. Oklahoma's recruiting isn't setting any world records right now but UT is apparently not doing well at all. Wonder what the UT fans on here think about how Charlie Strong is going (or not going) to turn this around quickly. I'm already hearing (premature?) rumblings from the Horns alumni in our offices. And this story comes from a pro-UT source.

that story is well over a month old. Texas fans are used to having 20-25 recruits at this pt. Based on average stars it is top10. Strong isnt a fill'e up in May guylike Mack. Texas is going to have to get used to recruiting like OU, where the class fills out in the fall. Lot of good news has come out fromt eh "Under the Lights Camp". Recruiting is not where I would like it to be, but far from a disaster

I'm not concerned. Once he said that recruits must earn the right to live off-campus that turned some off. Something about 3 Louisville players being selected in the First Round helps. A lot of recruits are waiting until games are played and I have no doubt that Strong will improve the team.

Murray wasn't even paying attention to a&? until Manziel starting playing and his dad was an alumni. Really?

That's interesting. I didn't know there had been such at UT. You're right; OU does tend to fill up late. If UT goes the same route it's going to be a huge difference. Texas has always had a butt load of 4* and 5* players right out of the gate. I'm not sure that's a good philosophy for Strong to have though. Seems to me UT is better off taking the pick of the litter as fast as they can. Then let the coaching staff do a better job than they have under Mack. Or am I missing something?

I think it's just a first year, coaching change thing really.

His biggest issue is being compared to Mack. Mack can be criticized for a lot of things, but recruiting is not one of them. One of the best ever and famous for filling up the class with almost a year to go. I would guess Strong finishes 7-15 type class with his first class, hardly a poor result at any school. It just part of the perception change going from a recruiter extraodinaire to a Xs and Os developer coach.

I'm thinking he will only win 6, +/-1 this year. Schedule looks rough for Texas, QB spot is the only thing that looks rougher.

Winning cures everything. Funny thing is, Texas only lost 1 more game than Aggy did last year and was an ass hair away from winning the Big 12, finished 3rd in conference, while Aggy finished 7th. We had a top 10 win over OU; Aggy's best win was over that powerhouse football program known as the Duke Blue Devils. Regardless, it shows you what the expectations are like in Austin and what the rest of the country considers what the expectations should be like for the University of Texas where going 8-5 is not acceptable, nor will be tolerated, but going 9-4 and finishing 7th in your conference is celebrated as EXCELLENCE in College Station.

Regardless, winning immediately will take care of all this recruiting stuff ASAP. On a side note, Aggy should always have a top 5-10 recruiting class; RC Slocum was a master recruiter and Aggy has access to the same resources as big bro does.

Texas will do alright in the long run. The name itself will always attract high profile athletes to the school. Not really worried.
