From what I've seen, I stand by my statement. This kid has the talent and the grit to be something special. You don't trade that kind of talent away.

So no matter what a team offered, you wouldn't give up Perez? Again, really?

I agree with ya on talent and grit. But everyone and anyone can be traded if the right opportunity presented itself. And frankly, if this Ranger team remains the same, he will be our # 4 starter for years! You can't trade a # 4 starter?

Gentry says, hmmm... I am facing a RH pitcher so getting a hit is a little tough... OK I'll take a walk here.

I can understand a person making that argument but I would not want to swap Beltre for Machado. Machado could not carry the load that Beltre has to as a leader and clean up hitter.

Didn't say that whatsoever,

and this was solely tied to defense

But, if you offered me Beltre for Machado straight up, can't say I wouldn't do it, but can't say I would

Yes Mitch!!!

Hey Lainey, don't you love how the Sox announcers describe our HR's - hysterical.....fly ball to right, hard hit, over the fence....totally monotone!!

My streaming went out! SOB!!!!!! Alright MM

but yeah, they've been pretty monotone in general, don't cha think?
god dangit. I'll catch the highlight, trying to get it back up

One of the other great things about Gentry, he will take a walk to get on, considering his average is .211 against RHPs, his .294 OBP isn't bad

1) yes, if somebody got totally stupid anyone could be had. That said, I do not see a scenario where anyone realisticly offers a package that I would trade Perez for.

2) viewing him as a #4 starter is very short sighted. Who cares where he pitches in the rotation. Pitching wins championships and if Perez is as good as I think he'll be, having him as our #4 will line us up for a lot of chances to win championships.

3) you're assuming we'll have all of our pitchers remain healthy for their careers and the foreseeable future. What's the saying about having too much pitching?

EVERY frequently used defensive metric that exists

I looked it up the other day because this topic came up already

Machado beats Beltre in EVERY category, and not necessarily by a small amount either

I take defensive metrics that are close with a grain of salt. For example, Jeter very seldom is credited with an error. They usually would rule it a hit. But that may be ruled differently in another park. MY won a gold glove but his range was non existent. Plus the difficulty of many of the chances handled by a player. It can be a very objective metric.

What "number" are you speaking of? And I "disagree" he's been better this year! And that's not a knock what-so-ever on Machado!

If you saw Machado play every game this season you'd probably say the same. Beltre actually had a couple of down games this season.

And a walk to someone like Gentry can be like a double because of the SB.

Gentry will take a ball to the ear hole to get on.

True but as I said, in many cases, it wasn't close,

machado has him beat in Range Factor, UZR, FLD%, like I said, just about everything

This isn't a Jeter/Andrus comparison, and if it is Machado is Andrus and Beltre is Jeter
