From Shawn McFarland:

Three Rangers prospects made @BaseballAmerica’s top 100 prospect list for 2025. Two cracked the top-25.

No. 20 Kumar Rocker
No. 21 Sebastian Walcott
No. 49 Alejandro Rosario
From Shawn McFarland:

Walcott (No. 21) drew high praise. BA listed him as a prime candidate to rise up the rankings this season and wrote that he should be “in the conversation” for the top spot in the sport next winter.

He'll all but certainly start the season in Double-A as a 19-year-old.

If the Rangers had really wanted to spend big thus offseason, they could have traded away Marcus Semien and his .237 average. I am afraid, a year from now he will be virtually untradeable.
That would have sent a very disturbing message to the team

I see us trading for a closer but surely not overpaying. Alot of good it did the Astros

If he comes close to repeating his 2024 performance in 2025, it will be a lot more disturbing. The team's performance in 2024 calls for some disturbing actions.

You could have said the same about us acquiring Semien after the first year of his contract.

A lot of factors last year and think they want to think it an aberration and not just for him who some think still had a good year. Numbers were down across the league.
And we had problems galore with many of our players
We should be better than 2023 in theory
But yeah there is that closer hole

Had we traded any player with a substantial contract this offseason, the evaluation of that trade would not be wisely evaluated by simply comparing what we could have been with him versus what we could have been without him.

It is:

How much that player would have contributed in 2925 and the future

Versus

How good we would have been in 2025 and going forward,

with the players we got back from the trade

Plus

How much the players, we could have afforded with the extra money we saved by trading the player with the substantial contract, would have contributed in 2025 and going forward

In other words, Player X(the player being traded away vs. Player A B, C, D, and maybe E.

It is never just about having Player X on the team vs. not having Player X on the team.

We may still trade Gray especially if he is overreluctant to close

I can see this. There is too much at stake

He has had several aberrations in his career thus far, and this one was worse than before. He is also in his mid-30s, and lots of players falter at that point, some even before.

There is a lot of reluctance by CY and Bochy for Gray to close because they want him in the rotation. Unless that was all a smoke screen, I think he stays.

But my point is he is not as bad as you think and we had worse years by others on the team.
I think they want to try to run it back vs trade him.
We have a catcher and RF to move and the jury is out on Carter and even Jung. Not get injured a lot. But I like these 2 but that is perception

It seems apparent based on the budget constraints that CY never thought it was realistic to sign Yates or anyone better than him. If they were going to make a trade just to free up money, I think they would have already done so.

Now, if it was something small like signing Hays, then they would probably still trade Leody. They could possibly be waiting Hays out as he looks to sign somewhere as a starter. That possibility seems like a remote one, though.

That is some very faint praise.

He was pretty bad, offensively, last year and had a weak season in 2022. He has had some weak seasons before, as well.

I just think we could have done significantly better with Players A, B, C, and D, in this case.

Father Time is hard to defeat.

I am well aware of how you feel about him

Chuckle.
Now if you suggest bailing on him in Jeff Wilson podcast you might have to give your Wilson fab son status. lol

I mentioned trading him one time during their podcast. I also read earlier this year where one of the writers suggested they might consider trading him. I am not sure if it was a national writer or a local one. It might have been Evan Grant.

Also, you can be a fan of the Player X and still see the wisdom in trading him.

I will say that he takes good care of himself and Seager and him work well together. Plus I would want someone who could hit with power at his level. I prefer to keep him at least one more year.

I would like someone at 2B to hit with power, but Josh Smith even had a slightly higher slugging percentage in 2024 than Marcus did. And, that could continue to slip as he moves through his mid-30s.

Also, in another uear, you might have to throw in a prospectjust to trade him. His trade value could really plummet with another off year.
