I would like someone at 2B to hit with power, but Josh Smith even had a slightly higher slugging percentage in 2024 than Marcus did. And, that could continue to slip as he moves through his mid-30s.

Also, in another uear, you might have to throw in a prospectjust to trade him. His trade value could really plummet with another off year.
I can understand why you are saying what you are saying. I am just having a hard time jumping in with both feet that Josh being a key piece at 2b in helping us get back to the playoffs. I also know that we would probably have to pay some of Semien's salary but we would have saved enough to sign a BP piece. But again we would have to trust CY to get a good one.

I am not sure if Josh would have automatically replaced Marcus at 2B. Maybe, but maybe not. It all depends on how they spent the money they would have saved and what they got back in trade.

As far as how much of Semien's salary we would have to pay, I guess that dependa on if they could find a GM who thinks more of his future than I do.

If Josh was to be instilled at 2B, at least he might be able to put up as good of offensive numbers as Semien put up last year. Of course, last year may have been the first step in him becoming better and better. He is definitely at the right age and level of experience that that could be the the case. If he does not, then he would be easier to replace as he isn't signed longterm. I don't think he would give us worse numbers than we got from the position last year, and maybe Walcott could take over 2B in 2026.

Of course, all of this is just talk, because the Rangers chose not to do that. Next year it won't happen either because either Marcus rebounds, or he becomes untradeable and we will be stuck with him through 2028.

if i was Cleveland i'd laugh at that offer
Maybe they would. That's fine.

It is more than we gave up for Scherzer.

I would have laughed at Spencer Howard for Gibson and Crouse, but the Rangers didn't.

From Shawn McFarland:

Texas selected Rosario out of Miami in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB draft. He was described by Baseball America beforehand as an “intriguing pro development prospect with performance that has never quite matched the natural arm talent.” The Rangers have helped make the two align: Rosario reached No. 49 on the outlet’s updated top 100 prospects list released Wednesday after a standout professional debut last season. Only nine right-handed pitchers ranked higher than him.

“They gave me a plan and I trusted it,” Rosario said last Friday at Globe Life Field during the Rangers’ prospect minicamp. “I just took off with the plan that they gave me.”

The plan, as Rosario described it, was less so focused on mechanics and more so on his pitch usage and location. He was instructed to attack the top of the strike zone, not the bottom of it, and was encouraged to throw his fastball-splitter duo “more aggressively.” The result was a 2.24 ERA, 129 strikeouts and 13 walks in 88 1/3 innings. He started the season in Single-A Down East, earned a promotion to High-A Hickory by June and joined Double-A Frisco in September.

“That goes to show how much the team knows,” Rosario said. “[It’s] the information that they’re giving you, but also, they’re well invested in you and your future.”

Consider that a cost-effective venture after the club had to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on starting pitching to address an overwhelming need brought on by decades of futile development. But, as general manager Ross Fenstermaker told The Dallas Morning News last August, the organization may finally be “on the cusp of accomplishing something” in that department.

Rosario might be a solid poster boy for it. So, too, could left-hander Cody Bradford, whom the Rangers have developed from a soft-throwing sixth-round draft choice into a reliable major league starter. Or, even, right-hander Jack Leiter. His first two seasons after the Rangers selected him second overall in the 2021 MLB draft were erratic, but since a massive overhaul to his mental and physical game, he’s gotten back on track. Rocker, who debuted in the majors last September, might be the best of them. Right-handers Emiliano Teodo and Winston Santos — both of whom the Rangers signed for $10,000 and developed into major league prospects — showcase an eye for talent.

Baseball America has an article out today that discusses who will be the number 1 prospect a year from now. Of the 6 writers, 2 of them chose Walker Jenkins and 2 of them chose Sebastian Walcott.

I still can't believe the Tigers allowed us to choose between Jenkins and Langford. Lol

Over half of the money in the deal Toronto signed with Santander is deferred money.

Sorry. Profar traded to Braves and got a good contract.
Ryan Pressley nixes a trade to Cubs due to no trade clause. Astros might have to eat some money to make this happen

I wonder if Pressley would accept a trade to the Rangers. He is from this area.

I don’t want him. Very hittable by us and overpaid in my book

Yeah, they would have to take on some of his salary.

Hittable by us, but then he wouldn't have to face us. Lol

Actually, his numbers against us were very bad in 2024, but his numbers against us overall have been great.

From Jeff Wilson about Jon Gray:

But he’s also excited about his 2025 campaign, which he anticipates opening fully healthy after a nerve injury in his right foot caused him problems all of last season. Ultimately, the pain reached 9 on a scale of 10, and he underwent season-ending surgery in September.
