From Jeff Wilson about what Jon Gray thinks about the idea of him working as a closer:

“If someone were to ask me to do it, yeah, of course I’ll do it,” he said. “I think it would be kind of fun. I think it would work out really good, too. It doesn’t seem like something I’d have to prepare much for because I’ve been through it once and I understand it now a bit.”

“There’s something about that that seems really cool, like throwing the last pitch of the game and closing it out,” Gray said.

Okay, if Gray is on board with closing, I say go for it.

That would close a hole and he could always return to the rotation layer on if needed. Maybe Church shows he is ready later on or Sborz comes back and can help out.

If not, then trade Mahle and sign Estevez.

I have felt that Gray would be really good at it ever since the World Series. He can just come in and let it fly.

I agree. I gave up on the idea after Gray, Bochy and CY all seemed against it back during the Winter Meetings. Gray seems to have come around to the idea. That makes me think the Rangers have discussed it with him.

Re Gray. Certainly has closer stuff but does seem to be a tad critical of himself and closers need to be Uber confident and have short memories

That being said I think he is still the best solution at present

seems to be the only option as there isn't one rumor about the Rangers being involved in anything. although i have heard that they do have some interest in Grossman
