Bennie. Saw EG gave his HOF ballot. I do t make the Andy P vote and think Schilling was better. Also was kind of thinking voting for Beltrán was a double standard
I just do the Athletic not DMN

Appreciate any light you might shed. Thanks
I had to go and read his article because I usually avoid the plethora of articles that the writers roll out at this time of year about the HOF. The HOF has become first and foremost a source for easy content in an industry driven by the need for more and more content. Secondarily,, it is another excuse for the media to make political statements every chance they get. That is why Schilling is not in the HOF.

Here is Evan's basic requirements for pitchers..(Note that Schilling checks every one of Evan's boxes) :

"It’s harder and harder to properly evaluate starting pitching: The three starters that got my votes – Buerhle, C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte – all had over 3,000 career innings and 200 wins and at least five seasons each with 15 wins. According to Baseball Reference, their career WARs ranged from 59-62, essentially identical. Félix Hernandez, who would have been 11th on my 10-man ballot, fell short in each of those categories. There was a 10-win difference in Buerhle’s 59 WAR and Hernandez’s 49. Do I feel absolute about this? No."

What Felix brought to the franchise was huge
What Schilling did in the field should not be excluded

The desire by the front office to have 7 starting pitchers and a fairly expensive DH has cost the ream the chance to sign a good closer.

I am guessing that CY will decide to short circuit the development of one of our young starting pitchers to make him a closer. Most likely that will be Teodo or Leiter.

It looks like i will have to give the front office a "D" as the grade for the offseason. The biggest need going into the offseason was the closer. They have failed to take care of that need, to this point.

Like I said ridiculous. While CY just sits on his hands. You think 30 blown saves in 2023 was bad. This season will be worse.
well i guess we should dump as many big contracts as possible within the next couple of weeks. maybe we could unload them by eating 50-60% of their contracts

Well maybe we trade for the closer because we seem to not be able to compete with LAD in thr FA marketplace
Words spoken by every other team

Well we might make a prospect a closer st some point.
Now that is not always the wrong decision is it.
Like Kela Clase, Fairbanks
Even debate able de Nefty though you disagree
Season is not over and even so still a pretty harsh grade

I did say, 'to this point."

It isn't harsh to me because closer should have been priority #1. Not Pederson. Not Eovaldi. Those two are nice additions, but a very good closer was needed more.

I have no problem attempting to turn young starters into relievers once they have failed at developing into starters. Neither Teido nor Leiter is at that stage though. Dane Dunning isn't at that stage either. Ragans was not at that stage 2 years ago either.

Kela never was a starter. Clase never started above Rookie-level ball. Fairbanks failed as a starter at the A level.

Here is the excerpt from Evan's Grant's article:

Obviously, Leiter and Rocker, in whom the Rangers invested the second and third overall picks in the 2021 and 2022 drafts, respectively, are the preferred options. And even if they don’t both make the rotation, manager Bruce Bochy said Friday he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of one earning a bullpen spot. Emphasis on “earn.”
This really comes into play now.

It sure seems like they are not going to compete with the relievers they have signed. You sign a bunch of B and C level relievers, you are going to get B and C level results.
