Back when the A’s were winning World Series, the owner tried to trade all their star players. MLB put a stop to it and nixed all their star players trades. If they wanted to they could put a stop to what the dodgers are doing now.
I am not a Manfred fan. Obvious favoritism in my book

Guess certain things can be addressed in the new CBA

Every other team in MLB is playing for at best, 2nd place in the NLCS or the WS. Baseball not having a cap allows any team to do what the Dodgers are doing but apparently they are the only team with the willingness to do it, regardless if it makes financial sense

true but since then the system has been changed to what we have now where ownership can do what LA is doing and until the CBA is changed any team owner willing to fork over the penalties as long as they can field a team that is guaranteed to fill the seats and bring revenue that far accedes those penalties they will continue. Dodgers are the worst but there are others who will do it too. Rangers are a fringe team that wants to compete, but its owners aren't willing go whole hog, so we're stuck as we are now just under the tax threshold and no bullpen to speak of and not much of a chance for any of the high price closers or late inning set-up relievers. we're back to the bludgering the opponents with offense, hope the starters can get us thru 5 or 6 innings and hope what we have in the pen can close at least 50% of the games.

Going forward, the idea that we have to pay free agents to fill 80-100% of the rotation has to change. Financially, that is hamstrings us. We had better develop some starting pitching and then give those guys a chance to succeed in the rotation. That may mean putting up with them getting acclimated to the big leagues without giving up on them.

Between Bradford, Rocker, Leiter, Acker, Rosario, Teodo, Drake, Corniell, Stephan, and Santos we should be able to find at least four members of the rotation if we finish developing them properly and have a little patience with them. With several of those guys really close, we should not have to go after another free agent starting pitcher for a few years. If we do it will be to the detriment of the team as a whole.

as far as MLB is concerned the Dodgers aren't breaking the rules. nothing says they can't do what they're doing all it says is that if they exceed certain lines they have to pay, and the Dodgers owners are willing to pay whatever it takes to build their team. most owners aren't willing to go the extra mile and so the Dodgers are stomping the dog---- out of them.
The problem is that the small market teams can't compete with that or they would implode. That's the whole reason for a salary cap.

They need a lot stiffer penalties for going that much beyond the luxury tax threshold. They should lose at least their top 7 draft picks to start with. They also shouldn't be able to sign any international free agents. The luxury tax shoild be a lot higher as well. The penalties obviously mean nothing at all to them as it is.

The luxury tax penalties are a joke. They need a hard salary cap and contracts with no deferred money. With what’s in the bullpen right now, 50% is asking a lot.

Asking the Rangers to develop pitching that is capable of pitching in the majors, is asking a lot.

They do have 2 pitchers right now in the top 100 prospects in baseball, so maybe they have turned that corner. On top of that, they did produce Cole Ragans, but they wouldn't trust his development. That can't be allowed to happen any more.

From Jon Morosi:

Catcher Chad Wallach, who spent last season with the Angels’ Triple-A affiliate, has agreed with the Rangers on a minor league split contract that includes an invitation to MLB camp, source says.

The Giants gave DFAed a carcher/outfielder, Blake Sabol. I wonder if the Rangers would be interested for organizational catcher depth.
I would much rather have had Sabol.

what they need in the next CBA is a Hard high and low caps, with no deferral like you said. i would set the upper cap at $200000000 and the lower at $120000000 giving the teams until the 2030 season for all teams with need to meet goals for the 2027, 2025 and 2029 seasons of $260000000, $240000000 & $220000000 respectfully for the high and $10200000, $108000000 & $114000000 for the low.

just the mind wandering while i was watching the football games yesterday. of course the high dollar teams like Dodgers (at $372.2M), the Phillies (at $299M), the Yankees (at $291.3M) and the Mets (at $288.2) will oppose a hard cap with every fiber of their Billions

It’s time we start asking Alot
I did like Bennie suggestion for draft pick hits for signings or really need to have a international draft

I just worry that Manfred is in pocket of LAD ownership pockets
Was not there a Cohen tax? But LAD is immune and all media slant to their favor.
Pretty ridiculous and misleading IMO

From Ben Badler:

Texas Rangers add another international prospect to their 2025 class today, signing Dominican shortstop Emil Martinez.

Santander signs for 5 years with Toronto. He signed for the same AAV as Tanner Scott. To me, Scott is worth more than Santander. That's just me though. Maybe that is because my favorite team hasn't had a longterm closer in a very long time.

Bennie. Saw EG gave his HOF ballot. I do t make the Andy P vote and think Schilling was better. Also was kind of thinking voting for Beltrán was a double standard
I just do the Athletic not DMN

Appreciate any light you might shed. Thanks
