I don’t know who got Josh Smith turned around. If he’s not already the hitting coach, he should be.
I think that means Smith needs to be a player/coach, because I think it was on his own. Actually, I think he just began to cone into his own.

Another guy that turned his game around on his own, late in his minor league career, is Cody Bradford. Of course, it seems from what I have seen and read about those two guys is that they are highly driven and intelligent.

Apparently CY wants Eovaldi and Heaney back in 2025 plus MLBT says that the Rangers are thought to be in on Fried. Snell, Sasaki and Saguno. don't see anything on bullpen arms but it's still early

At least they are focused on pitching.

They need to get the 7th inning pitching solved first. 2024 is where a LOT of games were lost in the 7th. Then, hopefully they will get Robertson and Yates as first tier for 8th and ninth innings again. They have Sborz as second tier who can swing the 8th or 9th so they need another ‘Sborz’. Preferably somebody who can throw 100+. Not that it makes you any better to throw that hard but it’s a weapon the other team always has to think about.

The question on Twitter was who would you like the Rangers to go after injury free agency. This was my answer just on the spur of the moment looking at the relievers who are available.

Tanner Scott
Jeff Hoffman
Kirby Yates
David Robertson
Carlos Estevez

Nick Martinez
Jose Urena

Four of the first group and one of the last group.

my choices would be Scott, Estevez, Yates and Robertson. i see Jon Gray in the role of right-hand long relieve and would hope they would pursue Ryan Yarbrough as the left hand long relieve

tired of 1 position of'ers if we are going after a FA Of'er i'd put Tyler O'Neill first, Santander 2nd

Santander is a FT starter. Does not need to float
He may just take RF and Adolis can DH

Always depends on the money. Guessing adRib wants more money if he is to resign

I hope Churxh is useful because I do not see us getting more than 2 top tier RO and a long man

Santander's projected contract is 5 years 100 mill. No thank you. If he is an upgrade he's not much of one and especially for that much money and other than game 1 in the playoffs against us last year where he went 2 for 3 he has been 2 for 16.

rather address the major need first. convince Robertson to go 1 more year and re-sign Yates to at least 1 year maybe 2 and then sign Tanner Scott and Carlos Estevez to multi-year deals.

make Heim and Lowe available for trade and see what's floated for them and if it's good take it. re-sign Carson Kelly and promote Huff. Catching fixed. sign Christian Walker and promote Crim or Abimelec Ortiz, 1B fixed.

CY wants Eovaldi back and if he gets him then we go with deGrom, Eovaldi, Bradford, Mahle and Rocker to open the season with both Leiter and Ryan Garcia starting at AAA every 5 games and 5+ innings. starting pitching addressed.

sign Ryan Yarbrough LHP for long relief along with Jon Gray RHP and Sborz and Pennington for set-up. Yarbrough, Gray, Sborz, Pennington, Robertson, Yates, Scott and Estevez, Bullpen fixed.

Batting Order:

Semien
Seager
Smith
Langford
Walker
Garcia
Jung
Huff
Carter

Bench:

Crim
Duran
Kelly
Osuna

Yeah more dreaming and I may have seen a few games he did well in and drank the Kool aid but reality is we need to spend more on pitching and find a bat that is a short term contract
Hopefully better than Robbie. Last year I wanted Turner

Three Texas Rangers prospects on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100:

- Sebastian Walcott at No. 23
- Kumar Rocker at No. 58
- Anthony Rosario at No. 86

To me, we need to spend the bulk of available money on the pen. Now, if we sign Soto, all of that goes out the window. Lol

I do not see a need for additional starting pitching unless it is for another swingman like Nick Martinez. We have Gray, Leiter and Dunning to compete for the 5th spot. Signing Martinez to compete with them would be fine too.

I haven't given up on Gray or Dunning as a starting pitcher. If Leiter or someone else steps up then fine. We probably shouldn't sleep on a guy like Teodo, Garcia or Acker competing for a spot either. As a longshot, don't count out Rosario. There are just too many options to spend $18-20 AAV on a starting pitcher

I don't want to go cheap on a hitter. Either go big or go with our own young guys.

Of course, these are things I would do. I know the FO has other ideas.

I don't mind too much if we sign starting pitchers and did move Gray and Dunning to the BP but agree that we need to also look at BP pieces specifically.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Since the Rangers haven’t been big on spending on the bullpen in the past.

I think that is what Bochy had in mind when he mentioned one of Tocker or Leiter could pitch in the Rangers bullpen this year. That old JD blueprint is still being used.

They did spend on 2 pen pieces last year and for Urena on the cheap

I would think they would at least do the same
Now how they handle Leiter will be of interest
We have alot of pitching talent getting ready to rise up and pitch in the majors
Can’t think that every one of them will be starters right?
