Yeah I just don’t understand spending all that money on SP and leaving the BP that was so terrible in 1 run games, basically the same or worse

I agree..
Wish they would have got at least one guy.. like Chaffin on a good deal.. like chaffin
Would have been nice.

They needed to make the bullpen better and didn’t. I’m expecting about the same results as last year. They at least needed a closer that could close out games.

They most likely will wait and overspend for one at the trade deadline. That is, if they are in contention.

These 10 teams won the offseason

3. Rangers

The 2022 Rangers were evidence of the dubiousness of the winter win. Not only did Corey Seager and Marcus Semien experience drawdowns from their 2021 stats, but the club, as a whole, proved not yet ready for prime time.

Still, if the Rangers were to shorten their road to contention, they had no choice but to press -- and spend -- on. That’s what they did, first and foremost, with the jaw-dropping signing of deGrom, whose presence alone reinvents the rotation. The Rangers also signed Andrew Heaney and Nathan Eovaldi, re-signed Martín Perez after his terrific 2022 and made a trade for depth piece Jake Odorizzi. On paper, the Rangers’ rotation, which had a 4.63 ERA last season (third-worst in the AL), has to be the most improved of any segment of any squad in MLB, so they definitely belong on this list.

"Today we are looking at Josh Jung, who ZiPS projects to slash .250/.304/.450 in 2023, good for a 754 OPS."

"Do you think Jung will be over or under that figure?"

From the Fangraphs article about their ZIPS projections. (Prior to the Eovaldi acquisition)

Jacob deGrom has to be considered an injury risk, but if he is healthy, who else would you prefer to have pitching for you? The rotation looks like a big improvement over what was projected this time last year, with Pérez’s outlook improved, and Gray and Heaney in the mix. Whether Dane Dunning or Jake Odorizzi end up as the fifth starter, it’s one of the better “last starter on paper” situations in the majors.

ZiPS sees the bullpen as middle-of-the-pack but with excellent depth. If you look at our current depth chart for the Rangers, you don’t get to a replacement-level reliever until Daniel Robert at 16th. And that depth chart doesn’t include someone ZiPS really likes, 2021 draftee Chase Lee. Steamer likes Lee as well, but not to the same degree as ZiPS. In terms of surprise, the last time a relief projection surprised me this much was Giovanny Gallegos before his breakout. Now, I’m naturally inclined to love sidearmers and submariners (Lee is more of the sidearmer type rather than one of the guys who almost drags a knuckle in the dirt), but ZiPS doesn’t know he’s one! Posting 2.63 FIP at Double-A and a 3.22 at Triple-A in a brutal environment for pitchers is pretty impressive. Like many sidearmers, Lee has quite significant platoon splits, so he’d fit more as a situational rightly reliever than in a jack-of-all-trades role.

Under for Garver, Semien and Heim. Over for Jung, Garcia, and Seager.
Semien had such a bad start. I say over shift helps Seager so over
Garver under Garcia over as depth helps.
JUng over. Think he figures it out. Heim I will pass on but end of season last year he trended down do to overuse methinks

I put this question to Levi Weaver:

Did Heim wear down or did opposing pitchers figure him out?

Levi said he would do some digging to try and get an answer.
