I wouldn’t do it with all of them. Just a case by case basis I reckon.
So, you like the idea, but you don't know who you would do it for. What kind of things would you consider in determining who you would do it for?

Well the first part I like is having a well staffed rotation with different departure dates so that as one guy leaves for FA we have a prospect to replace them. I don’t like trying to let guys figure it out at the major league level while starting 30 games their first year and putting up a 5.00 ERA. I’d rather them start in the bullpen and spot start here and there after teams days off, all star break, maybe a couple of SP go deep into the game and they’re not needing to lean so hard on the bullpen.
I’d use guys that can be good out of the pen, high K/9 w/ decent velocity and maybe they need to ease into 135-150 innings. Maybe they have a little shoulder soreness or bicep tendinitis they’re dealing with while trying to fix a small mechanics issue

Re Levi Weqvwr article

1 we have resigned Perez and now Odorizzi. I think we max out at one more. Think there is some confusion on initial plan

2. I have no problem with one of our pitchers not totally ramped up but with a legit arm and nothing to prove finish a year at the MLB level. A guy like White might fit this description. At some point Winn might fit this as he may be heading to his innings limit assuming he is ready
3 Guys like Vanasco who may have one or 2 pitches ready might get a cup of coffee at best. They need further MILB development

Whether we stinted growth by bringing up guys early and profiled them as relievers only, I don’t know for sure. One thing we do know is the Rangers have not developed pitchers even as the Astros. Sigh

I think in Weaver's case there was no confusion. I think he simply lets his wishful thinking get in the way or clear thinking.

Exactly, that is how it should work, not putting them onto the pen for a year or two.

I do not think anyone could construe CY words to resign Perez and obtain 3 other starters

Hopefully that was a JD problem and we will not endure it any longer.

Not with clear thinking. I don't think Weaver misunderstood, he just was certain that one of those pitchers had to come from a big trade, and he cannot cope without that still being the case.

Eh, nothing wrong with minor league SP finishing the year in the bullpen at the MLB level.
Brewers had Woodruff, Burnes and Peralta in their bullpen their first 2 years or so.
Astros have done it with some of their guys.
Dodgers have as well.
The Rays too..
Those organizations have some pretty good pitching too.
It’s not for every SP but some.
Small wins from the bullpen while learning their craft and earning their spot.
The last few years didn’t matter too much because they were rebuilding years, I didn’t mind seeing Otto and Ragans out there as SP.
but I think we’re all going to have to get ready to see some of our SP prospects come out of the pen next year and there after. It’s part of building a sustainable team

Yes, when our rotation is filled for the foreseeable future, guys that are lesser starters will either have to move to the pen or be traded.

I doubt any of our top pitching prospects are going to be ready to come up at all this year.

Meanwhile, we need to spend some money on relievers this offseason.

I would like them to get one more really good SP.
1.DeGrom,Rodon, Trade
2.Perez
3.Gray
4.Odorizzi
5.Dunning
6.Otto
7.Ragans

That would be good enough for this coming year.
Owen White can finish next year out of the bullpen down the stretch at the MLB level and then take His spot in the rotation come 2024

Looks like you have several guys being ready for the bullpen in September of 2023. Four of them.

And 7 by September of 2024. Lol

And that doesn't include Dunning and Otto.

We’re either going to have to trade them or move them to the pen lol
Lots of pitching talent coming over the next couple of years

Perez -- $19.5 million AAV
Odorizzy -- $2.5 million AAV
Senga -- $15 million AAV
FA Relief Pitcher -- $9 million AAV
FA Relief Pitcher -- $8 million AAV

Total increased AAV is $54 million. That leaves a lot of financial flexibity.

Then you need to trade the guys already in the pen. That makes for a lot of trades.
