I have to think he can do better than 3/35 guaranteed.

Possibly, but his career numbers would make me think an incentive laden contract would be smart.
Other teams have to wonder if he’ll regress back to his normal numbers. 4.50 ERA back of the rotation type starter

smart for the team, yes. and yes there is the chance for regression. But in this market, it just seems like MP should be able to command an AAV of 14 or 15 million over 3 years. i think players prefer the guaranteed money over the potential money.

I would hope that offer is on the table and if so he is accepting. If not then maybe he does walk

Over his seven seasons with the Buffaloes, Yoshida has become one of NPB’s top hitters, with a .327/.421/.539 slash line and 133 home runs in 3129 career plate appearances. His resume includes four NPB All-Star appearances, league batting titles in both 2020 and 2021, and four selections to the “Best Nine” roster for the Pacific League (like the AL and NL in the majors, NPB has the Pacific League and Central League). Yoshida was also the hero in Game 5 of the Japan Series, with a two-homer performance that included a three-run walkoff blast to give the Buffaloes a comeback win.
Compare his numbers with Ohtani to gat a glimpse of what he is likely to do over here.

Ohtani's best season's OPS was 1.004 and Yoshida's was 1.007

Ohtani's career slash line in Japan was - 286/.358/.501
Yoshida's career slash line in Japan is - 327/.421/.539

if his defense is middle of the road or better, I'm on board 100%.

I’m thinking the Rangers sign Perez to a 3/$35 million deal with larger incentives than normal.
Like $2 million if he finishes in the top 35 in ERA which means he has to qualify (stay healthy) and have an ERA under 3.99. Another $2 million if he finishes in the top 20 and another $4 million if he finishes in top 10 in cy young voting for AL.

Basically $11 AAV but up to $19 million if he stays on track.
I think it’s going to take closer to 3/45.

Did WSgo later ? Lockout stuff? Pretty slow right now although rule 5 is coming up to. Still have a coach to sign and Perez to boot. But really no news

Last year's early pace was hurried due to the impending lockout. I think we will surpass last year by the end of the year.
