F the Houston Astros
At the end of the season if you told me, this was what we had lined up for our starting rotation and Englert is the biggest piece we lost, in the offseason I would have thought you were full of it.
You put 4.10 for Perez above.Haha I’m thinking Perez finishes with a 3.89 ERA and gives us the most innings of any SP.
He will probably be the most important SP on the team
That could have been said for the rotation candidates already in the fold as well. It seems like most use a whole lot more optimisim on guys coming from outside the organization than they do for the ones from within. The grass always seems greener on the other side of the organizational fence.
My updated expectation for the ERA of each of our 5 rotation members
Degrom-----2.70
Perez--------2.90
Gray‐‐-------3.90
Heaney-----4.00
Eovaldi-----4.10
If that's the starting five, I'd probably have;Astros were 26th in offense from C, 29th at 1B
They traded for a C and a 1B and it didn’t help much lol
DeGrom-2.70
Heaney-3.70
Eovaldi-3.85
Gray-3.90
Perez-4.10
If they go out and spend on 2 quality relief pitchers then I am fine with this move. If it takes the place of doing that then I am not fine with it. I think it takes the place of spending on 2 relievers.I like it, we have a good SP for the rotation and lots more depth than we have ever had.We haven't mortgaged the future by dealing a bunch of our prospects. Yes I think they will sign a RP but I dont think it will necessarily be the closer type. Yes I would have liked to retain Englert but you cant keep them all. I dont for the life of me know why Spencer Howard is still on the team but overall this is a good move for what it costs which is only money and if Davis is spending then I'll take it. It isn't Rodon but its a good move. Now finish what you started CY

Well then this whole conversation since then has been a waste. LolI did that to pull your leg lol I know you love Perez. I think he will have a very good year
If he sees so, coming out of the pen, then I think the bullpen throws 5 plus inning in those 12 to 15 starts.I'd throw in Odorizzi making 12-15 starts
with an ERA of 3.85-3.95.
Riddle me this; I think we all believe the likes of Leiter, White, Winn, ect have a higher ceiling than the Dunnings, Ragans and Ottos and will eventually supplant them in the rotation. Given the SP depth the team now has, why not put one or two of these guys in the pen?If they go out and spend on 2 quality relief pitchers then I am fine with this move. If it takes the place of doing that then I am not fine with it. I think it takes the place of spending on 2 relievers.
I still say your plus, compared to me, on two of their ERAs totaling .55 is less than my plus, compared to you, on Perez of .99, still makes me more optimistic. Especially, considering the weighted averages.Aww come on man lol
I'd prefer him as the fifth or sixth starter with a guy like Dunning or Otto pitching out of the pen.If he sees so, coming out of the pen, then I think the bullpen throws 5 plus inning in those 12 to 15 starts.
You need them at AAA for starting pitching depth because everyone except Perez has trouble staying healthy. Both Dunning and Otto may be needed to join this rotation by early to mid May. If they are in the pen then it is guys like Howard and a veteran signed for depth like we had last year. Let's don't repeat that.Riddle me this; I think we all believe the likes of Leiter, White, Winn, ect have a higher ceiling than the Dunnings, Ragans and Ottos and will eventually supplant them in the rotation. Yeah, fans love to speculate on a 6 man rotation, but few teams ever try it for more than once or twice through the rotation, if at all.I'd prefer him as the fifth or sixth starter with a guy like Dunning or Otto pitching out of the pen.
But I don't expect this team to embrace a six man rotation like I would.
So you're probably right.
Ha you know Otto is bullpen bound. So that is what bothers. Who knowsIf they go out and spend on 2 quality relief pitchers then I am fine with this move. If it takes the place of doing that then I am not fine with it. I think it takes the place of spending on 2 relievers.
Good we have depth then methinksSomeone compared this rotation to our WS years' rotations earlier. That 2011 club had 5 guys start 29 games that year. Most likely 3 of these guys will not come close to doing that.
At this point don't be surprised if they still sign two. Moore and Chafin?FWIW Evoldi does make the team better but if I had my druthers I would rather have 2 lockdown relievers on of which is a closer
