Is this not the highest Ranger salary ever?

Yeah it is for sure
I think the highest before was 2017-$175 million
Adjusted for todays #s would be $211 million

I keep having people on Reddit clap back that the Rangers don't have a shot with Senga because he "wants to win now."

I'm assuming that Senga understands that him being on a team gets them closer to winning, and also if he wants 5-6 years, that he doesn't want to win in 2023 and then fart around for 5 more seasons.

So I guess, according to their logic, Senga should really only be looking at signing with the Yankees, Astros, Braves, or Dodgers, because those are the only 4 teams in baseball who would be definite championship contenders on paper. Maybe the Padres. Even good teams like the Mariners, Rays, Phillies, and Cardinals have some weaknesses and aren’t light years ahead of the Rangers in terms of being a contender.

I think Senga saying he wants to pitch for a contender does more to exclude certain bottom-feeding teams (Pirates, A’s, Reds, etc) than it does to rule out teams like the Rangers, White Sox, Giants, etc, who might have been mediocre last year but are on the path to contending in the near future based on acquisitions and farm systems.

What if - and this is just my stupid conspiracy - but what if Texas is intending to sign Senga, and Heaney is viewed as more SP depth in case Senga isn't ready to pitch more than, say, 150 innings? SPs pitch every six days in Japan, I believe?

I don’t think it’s stupid

Senga has thrown as many as 180 innings before.

Got to believe the Angels are strongly in the mix. They were right up there before they imploded and they want to make Ohtani happy too.

I think they're signing SP's with the intent of getting full-ish seasons out of them.

Reynolds is under control until 2025 at a low cost, so I’m guessing quite a bit. I would suspect they would ask for either Leiter or White and the likes of Foscue, Harris, etc would be included in some combo.

The Rangers lose Englert in the Rule 5 draft.

But we still have Howard, Sborz, Miller, King and Eli White on our roster.

This is a major fail.

So this organization has failed twice where it concerns Mason Englert. First, he was a part fo the infamous deload program that saw three young pitchers have to get TJ surgery. Now, they leave him open to being taken while keeping much lesser players on the 40 man, and of course, he is taken. He was like the 4th or 5th guy to be taken because it was easy to see that he has a tremendous amount of promise and he can easily be hid for a year in the back of a bullpen and occasionally on the DL. Then in 2024 he can return to the minors and finish up his development.

No one was going to try and keep Ornelas on the big league roster all year long. He could have been left unprotected without much of a risk at all.

Yeah that deload program has come back to bite. Also he may have not been taken if we did not move him to AA. Bad strategy IMO
