Kyle Schwarber probably either accepts the mutual option with Boston and/or signs a new deal with them
Castellanos is projected to get a 6 year deal at around $22M AAV

That’s a 6 year $132 million deal
Wonder if he would do a 5 year $130 million deal? With a 6 year option for $15 million or a $5 million buyout? Essentially a 5 year $132 guarantee.
I wouldn’t mind paying him a little more per year up front $28, $28, $26, $23, $22, $15 or $5 mil buyout

Who knows though.. we could sign him for even less..
I had him pegged at 5/$115

Thank you for the detailed response.
That’s awesome
Pretty much what I have in mind.
Except a little different

If I had it my way It would be
C-Melendez or trade for catcher or sign Gomez
1B-Lowe
2B-Ibanez
3B-Jung
SS-Story
LF-Schwarber
CF-Adolis
RF-Castellanos
DH-Huff
Bench
DJ Peters, Yonny, Solak and Leody

1. Gausman
2. Trade-IKF, JT,JH, YR, RH, OW, non top 4 etc
3. Dunning
4. Hearn
5. Alexy/Otto

Might be beneficial to replace Solak with a LH hitting utility player that could platoon with Huff at DH sometimes

This includes Huff and Jung up front and IMO wouldn’t block Foscue because either Ibanez is a beast or Foscue replaces him.
Also there’s flexibility where Huff can move to 1B if Lowe doesn’t perform which would allow Crim to DH. Adolis probably won’t be good for long which will allow for Duran and Carter opportunities.
Josh Smith I believe will be an amazing utility player replacing Duffy in 2023.
I don’t belive Gausman will block any of the pitchers because there’s always huge turnover in a rotation.
Then Acuna would replace Yonny in 2023 or 2024 and if he’s a bad ass I’m sure there will be an opening for him.

I want to come at it from an abundance mindset. The more the merrier. There’s always underperformance. So stack, stack, stack the team.

IMO we have about 14 good prospects and plenty of money. There’s room to make the roster loaded with talent while signing players, keeping it flexible and allowing the young guys opportunities. I don’t like planning to leave a spot open for a specific prospect. The roster hardly ever has legit healthy starters at every single spot at all times. Let them come up and work their way in. Earn their way.

Huff is nowhere near ready to face big league pitching.

Most of our team isn’t either.
But yes let’s not pencil him in just yet. It would be better to get some regular time catching in Round Rock. Maybe he will surprise us. Would be nice for him to get late call up and be ready the following year

Are those in order of prominence? Because if so, Story being so low kinda makes me hope the Rangers don't sign him to a Lindor-esque deal.

Yea, he needs time in the minors both defensively and offensively. If he had gone to Arizona this fall and lit it up I might think differently, but he has struggled and he also struggled a lot of the regular season this year.

He put it this way:

"I ranked them according to how much I might commit to each of them if I were a GM with a need for that player and no particular payroll constraints — not necessarily what they will get, but what I think they’re likely to be worth, considering their potential future production, playing time and growth or regression over the life of such a contract. Your mileage, as always, may vary."

MLB.com has their list of biggest need for each team, and once again prove the national media are usually a bad source to trust for insight into a local team.

Rangers: Starting pitching
Texas’ 5.33 rotation ERA ranked 28th in the Majors in 2021, but the front office has said it plans to be aggressive in free agency this winter. That could mean a number of things, but adding a top-flight starter appears to be among the top priorities. The Rangers could also be in the mix for the shortstop class.
Potential FA targets: Clayton Kershaw, Noah Syndergaard

Still pretty surprising to see Story ranked so low. The common knock on him is that his numbers are inflated by playing in Colorado.

Yes Story is a bit low on the list IMO. Also there is no way in the planet Baez is in the same breath as TS much less ranked higher

Grant thinks Correa and Seager will get 8 to 10 year deals and Story and Semien will get 5 to 7 year deals.

From mlbtraderumors:

The Padres have announced that they exercised their club options over right-handed relievers Pierce Johnson and Craig Stammen for the 2022 season. They’ve also declined their options over right-handed reliever Keone Kela and outfielder Jake Marisnick.

Additionally, the team confirmed that utility-man Jurickson Profar has exercised his player option for the upcoming season while right-handed closer Mark Melancon has declined his player option.

that's in line with my thinking. Correa is the youngest I think so I imagine he gets a 9 or 10 year deal.

Chris Young joined Jeff Wilson on Wilson's podcast. This is what Wilson said about the conversation.

“Going back to all good teams I’ve been a part of — whether it was in high school, college, the minor leagues and into the professional ranks — there were certain similarities and traits that those teams exhibited, and that was a respect for each other, a respect for the game and playing the game the right way,” Young said.

“I’m a firm believer in that. It’s up to us to choose the right personnel that embody those traits but also to create the environment and expectation and to set a really high standard for everybody.”

Players don’t play in a vacuum. Not every player is a fits on every roster. Chemistry is real, Young said, and the Rangers are building toward it. It’s not just the players who played for them in 2021 who are part of the formula, but also players in the minor leagues have created it.

"I understand it’s hard for fans to understand that when we’ve lost 102 games, but nobody here was satisfied with the results and our players weren’t satisfied,” said Young, who was hired Dec. 4, 2020.

“To the contrary, I’ve been on other teams that were under .500 and there was a complacency. That’s the difference between good organizations and ones that really can’t climb out of these things.”
