More from Jeff Wilson's Farm Report yesterday.

Finishing rehab

Chris Seise: The tough-luck shortstop lasted about a week last season before tearing his ACL and undergoing season-ending knee surgery. He hasn’t cried uncle yet, and should be ready to DH in games early in the minor-league season. Shortstop should happen at some point later.

Ryan Garcia: Another high draft choice (second round, 2019) who has yet to pitch as a professional, Garcia has been sacked by injuries the past two seasons. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2020 and dealt with repeated oblique injuries in 2021. He’s healthy, has been more proactive in the gym, and could be ready by late April.

Dane Acker: This right-hander isn’t as far along as Garcia following Tommy John surgery last spring, but he is in the midst of a throwing program and isn’t far from throwing off a mound. The hard-throwing native Texan could be ready to pitch in games by midseason.
nothing gained right now by rushing any of them except for possible further injuries. let them take their time. we have plenty of room and time

Time is on our side and taking advantage is the smart thing to consider.

If the CBT threshold goes up significantly, does that make the Rangers more or less likely to be competitive with the best teams in the majors?

If a Rangers fan wants the CBT threshold to be increased significantly should that fan expect the Rangers to spend close to that threshold? Is it inconsistent to want the former, but not expect the latter?

no. i would be satisfied as long as the team is competitive

To me the CBT has never come into play with the Rangers as they have never approached the maximum. But I do get with revenues increasing, the players salaries have not increase as a whole. So young guys and mid level vets get squeezed.

As said the increased revenue should help the people the older retired vets are without benefits. And the young guys who excel are squeezed and their time clock manipulated

But that being said, I do not think singularly raising the CBT will affect the Rangers as it would for NY and LA teams and a few more

Has the way the Rangers have handled their roster and payroll over the last 3 or 4 years been bad for the game of baseball? If all teams handled things the same way occasionally, would that hurt the integrity of the game and warrant a draft lottery?

Have the Rangers deserved to draft exactly where they did the last couple of years and where they will in 2022?

If the Rangers field a team in 2026 made up of 22 guys with no more than 4 or 5 years of experience plus Seagar, Semien, 1 FA bench player making $7 million a year, and 1 FA relief pitcher making $9 million, would their relatively low payroll be something for the union to point to as not being fair?

Good question and the union likely say it is unfair as they like owners will take every advantage to protect themselves.

I think the bigger issue is they been playing by the imperfect rules that MLB has made.
Letting teams tank with no intention of trying to compete is bad for baseball sending the wrong message to our youth. When a team can profit via revenue sharing without having to compete that is bad for the game.

More issues than this obviously

don't know and don't care if what they have done has been bad for the MLB, but it has been bad for the Rangers fans

So you think the way the Rangers have handled it is fine? The Rangers in particular?
