Let’s just meet in the middle and do $229, $233, $237 and $241
The way inflation has gone that’s not that high really.

@saddles good set of tweets

Re the CBT to me what it boils down to is extra revenue is being brought in via TV and potentially expanded playoffs. So this is where the real money push lies. All that TV money that came in, the elite player cashed in but middle of the road vets lost out to the young players. Overall the players did not share in the increased revenue because the “soft cap” did not increase, more teams tanked and none of the revenue went to pension that I know of.
So the players can increase revenue for the league with expanded playoffs. I would think that unless new revenue is shared to some degree the players won’t let the playoffs expand and why do the DH then

Surely there can be some sharing and I hope the MILB and older retired vets can finally benefit.
Not sure I have much faith in that with current leadership

Yes the owners stance on the CBT doe not even take into account inflation. There really has been no negotiation on their part where it counts

The evidence is compelling:

  • MLB revenues have soared from $8.2 billion in 2015 to over $10.7 billion in 2019, a 30 percent increase
  • Player salaries have decreased by 6.4 percent, with the average salary declining from $4.45 million to $4.17 million during the span of the current CBA.
  • The median salary has fallen from $1.65 million in 2015 to $ 1.15 million in 2021, a decline of 30 percent.
  • 54 percent of players in MLB are not yet eligible for arbitration, earning near the minimum salary.
  • 13 teams had payrolls under $100 million for the 2021 season. Five teams spent less than $50 million.
  • Three teams spent less than $17 million on their 26 man major league payroll according to Spotrac. These teams are simply not trying to win.

Is this due to the age demographic changing? Are there less experienced players on average now?

I wonder how the total contractual obligations now, compares to the total amount of contractual obligations before the present CBA?

Do we go with IKF or trade him?

Do we go with a Ibanez and Solak at 3B?

Do we sign a one year free agent to play 3B?

Does Justin Foscue actually have a shot to play 3B for us?

This will probably be a year where you can sign some good players to a one year deal.
we stay with IKF at 3rd with Yonny and Andy covering the UIF

The age is down as guys entering into free agency are not paid and replaced by lesser talented younger players.

FWIW I still think it is millionaires vs billionaires. None of the youth are at the table. They are counting on Sherzer. Good luck

the Scherzer's and Trout's etc are only concerned with ensuring their continued gold. they could care less if the kids survive

It’s probably due to less contracts for avg players
We’re still seeing big contracts for elite guys.
Just not those 5/$60 for .270/.300/.450 25 hr guys. They’re just not in demand anymore.
Pitchers are more elite but more injury prone and the hitters are fighting the shift
I think these things play into why we see a decline in AAV

Yet, everyone seems to think Gallo will get a sizable contract and he is not thought to be elite.

If Gallo has a .370+ OBP, 35+HRs and stellar defense he will deserve a decent payday. That’s a great player to have.
I’m talking about the players with a .330 or less OBP and 25 or less HR power and subpar defense. Those guys aren’t getting paid (highly) anymore and probably for the better.

I agree that it is for the better. There are some who would view this happening as the owners being cheap.

Raise the competitive balance threshold by $30 million for each stage and keep the tax rates the same. Raise the minimum pay by $40 million. Reduce revenue sharing with the lesser teams by 50%. Keep everything else the same. Do those things and call it a day.
