this isn't a philosophical/symbolic negation, though. If this was a matter of the proverbial "let's meet halfway," then the counteroffers by the league would be significantly more than what they've been.

I've known people who have moved the symbolical inch alongside others who moved a yard, and felt they made an equal effort because "we both moved."
Until both sides get serious it doesn't matter to me if one side moves a yard or an inch. If both sides moved a yard at a time it would still take way too long.

The only area where they are significantly closer on, is the ridiculous draft lottery. I believe both sides recently moved about the same distance on that. If they each moved that much another two or three times they would be at the same number. That isn't close to being the case in most of the other areas.

have the players association shown that willingness

In my opinion, yes. Relative to this specific negotiation and the contributions that the league, at least. At one point the league waited 6 weeks to respond to an offer made by the players.

Those 6 prospects plus Harris and Foscue have shown up on various top 100 prospects lists as of late. I doubt we have come close to having a total of 8 ranked that high by the more respected rankings.

Just wait until the various rankers see what Vanasco, Evans, Roby and Crim will do this season. Maybe Huff, too.

I didn't respond to your post at the time, and if you explained it, apologies, but what made you reconsider the idea that the Rangers would trade off many of their top ranked prospects?

I still think there is a good possibility that they will. What tempered it was the leadership type meeting they had with some of the prospects a few weeks back. They have also been open to finding new positions for some of the guys who seemed to have no position after signing the two SS in free agency. Those two things make it seem like they are looking to have those guys around for awhile.

I think their moves after the lockout will show us the path they are taking. If they trade for Olson, sign an outfielder longer than for a couple of years, and go get a good pitcher, then they are in win now mode, and then I think we see those 5 to 8 prospects traded by the end of July.

If they don't make a major trade and don't sign a longer term OF or starting pitcher then I think we hold onto our prospects for awhile.

I guess one thing about Jung missing this season is that it puts one more year of controlling him within our upcoming window. Of course, if we extend him at some point that would be a non-factor.

Well let’s hope Jung recovers fully gets some playing time then a call up and starts next year.

Things like this is why you don’t trade your prospects immediately. No guarantees for Seager or Simeon

Do we go with IKF or trade him?

Do we go with a Ibanez and Solak at 3B?

Do we sign a one year free agent to play 3B?

Does Justin Foscue actually have a shot to play 3B for us?

This will probably be a year where you can sign some good players to a one year deal.
