We have discussed the Royals catching prospect, MJ Melendez, a lot this offseason. As of today,, Baseball America projects the 2025 Royals lineup to feature Melendez at catcher and Perez at DH. What they don't say is what the projected lineup is in 2023 and 2024.
I've also seen projections where he might end up at 3B

I wonder if the Rangers will acquire 1 more OF, 1 more SP and also a C.

I want them to do it in the smartest way possible ofcourse..
I feel like it could be the difference between a 83 win season and a 90 win season.

If this lockout cuts into the regular season, we may no longer have a need for another innings-eater starting pitcher.

I think they stand pat at catcher at this point... SP if it's Kershaw, stand pat otherwise... OF is the wild card

Man, I hope we don’t stand pat at C.
I think Heim and Trevino make great back up catchers but I don’t think they make great starting catchers.
They’re about 35-40% worse than avg on offense.
Trevino was ran on successfully like no ones business. Only started like 80 games and was 40/9 Sb/cs
Heim was 31/9 SB/CS
Heim had an OPS of .595
Trevino .607

We’re are far from set at catcher IMO

Didn't say we were set

Im just interested to see what Heim could do, given more playing time, and next season is really the time to figure some of these things out

He has solid power and doesn't strikeout a ton, so there's room for improvement there, I think with just a couple tweaks to his swing, he's already solid against LHPs, but not so much against RHPs,

His ability to throw runners is the one bc thing that's worrisome to me

I just know I wouldn't be willing to unload a ton of prospects to acquire a catcher for this season

What catcher would you go get.

Well I like Austin Nola of the Padres.
Austin Allen of the Athletics
MJ Melendez of the Royals
Varsho or Kelly from the Diamondbacks

The Rangers have another year to find out if Huff can catch and if he can become a more consistent hitter. If he doesn't prove something in 2021, it most likely means the Rangers will have to go after a free agent catcher a year from now or trade for one.

Pozo gets no respect for his catching. That reminds me of the early days of Robison Chirinos. Only, Pozo has become a better hitter than Chirinos ever was in the minors. I wonder if Pozo will have a better career than Chirinos.

and the Yankees liked Odor. What's the point? Just messing with ya. 2023 will likely see another catcher unless Heim or Trevino really steps up. Still can not rule out Huff.
