I am marveling over the fact that the Indians turned over more than one-quarter of their 40-man roster today.

And literally anyone of the 11 players listed below would have been excellent candidates to be taken if left unprotected from the Rule 5 draft.

I think we could have easily protected 7 or 8 instead of 3.

It really bothers me. He put up a .808 OPS in AA with 25 SB and plays a premium position. CF

Makes 0 sense to me to not protect him and leave 3 spots open.
Could always trade others or even DFA others that aren’t as promising as Bubba Thompson.

Another team will probably pick him up and let him be a 4th/5th OF. Pinch hit against lefties, pinch run and defense replacement for 2022.
Then they’ll have him.

Probably comes from the same thought process that gave us Spencer Howard and gave away Hans Crouse.

I find this interesting as teams that have open Roster spots are easier set to add in free agency.
For example Det and Hou only have one roster spot available. Of course they can still DFA someone but still. Rangers have 3 spots open

Side note yes we could have added more and many e dropped others but it would make it harder to dip into free agency if we keep them all and there at plenty of teams with zero spots available. They will nothing be active in rule 5 acquisition which is potentially up in the air due to CBA not done yet
