Of all the short stops on the Free agent market I think Javier Baez will have the highest WAR total over the next 5 years.
Considering he will sign for less than Correa and Seager he might be the best deal/bargain.
No interest in Baez, no plate discipline

I see the Rangers linked to a lot of the top free agents — obviously a team with needs across the diamond, so who do you think they prioritize in terms of rebuilding the team? — David S.

It should be one of the shortstops. The two best are Carlos Correa and Corey Seager. The bidding for both figures to be fierce. Marcus Semien also profiles as an excellent player, but he is three years older than Seager and four years older than Correa. The Rangers should be hunting the younger players, the ones you would feel more comfortable about spending nearly a decade with. Because that is the length of the deal Texas will need to offer in order to land the player.

Texas should also be waiting to see what Clayton Kershaw decides to do. Most likely, if Kershaw plays in 2022, he wears a Dodgers uniform. But the pull of Texas is real. Kershaw has accomplished all the things he needs to accomplish as a Dodger. He has good relationships with the decision-makers in Texas. Chris Woodward coached third base for the Dodgers. Rangers general manager Chris Young used to be one of Kershaw’s offseason catch partners.

So for Texas, the priority is landing a superstar. Reeling in Kershaw wouldn’t hurt, either

Yes He is prone to the strikeout but pretty athletic. Don’t see his defense better than IKF. He will drive in runs.
I would like to get more of a consistent bat in building a foundation for our hitting lineup
Perhaps some upside I am not seeing but he has been around long enough to hit free agency.
Maybe what you see is what you get

I like the idea of extending our own players who produce. Hope we leave some budget for this
Maybe we have some can’t miss guys and maybe not now but if Garcia has a good second year he may be a candidate

Just as I got on the sign Berrios next year bandwagon, he signs long term. Lol

Oh well. If the Rangers 2024 rotation looks like this I will be completely satisfied.

Leiter
Vanasco
Winn
White
Roby

I am willing to bring in a veteran or two to help those five young pitchers get acclimated, and then let them take on the world beginning in 2024, by themselves. Hopefully, in a few years we will start extending them like the Blue Jays just did with Berrios.

Agreed. That is why I want to limit our long term free agent signings.

I wonder how the CBA affects a guy like Garcia.
Free agency at a specific age may affect some guys who start their clock late

Weird deal if only one year and lose your draft pick

if it it for 1 year then it makes no sense for either him or the Angels. it would have to be for more than the QO and the Angels give up a 2nd round pick

I think it speaks to the desperate state of their rotation.

i would have stepped in and offered him 3 years $72M with an opt out

Not me. Berrios is the better pitcher.
