Probably because there's a pretty good Asian presence there. The Rangers have had a tough time getting free agent pitchers to come here, even when they had good teams. Why would him or any good free agent pitcher want to come here right now.
Why would he go to Seattle?
Good answer for a guy from Wacko. lolBecause they overpaid fairly significantly and there is a huge Japanese demographic in Seattle.

Did you not read what I wrote? If he is a true #3 as said then it might not be a significant overpay. Club has an interesting option as well.
But he is no 200 inning pitcher at this point.
Have not heard of Rangers going after him hard or any backtrack by writers.
Saddles--- A lot of teams in hunt for FAs and throwing shade on Rangers for a miss is a stretch
Seattle is going to be a dead team for quite some time.Because they overpaid fairly significantly and there is a huge Japanese demographic in Seattle.
Ok I guess it is more a dig on Newberg. I never saw the comments thoughDid you not read what I wrote?

The pay is not really out of line from what those who have been writing about him thought about him(ceiling as a #2 starter and all). He probably could have made that much in numerous places.
The Japanese population might make some sense if the team wasn't going to be dog meat for awhile. If he is that homesick then he might not should have come over here. I don't get the signing from the team's perspective or from his.
What does that have to do with what I said?and they still will be a better team than the Rangers over the next few years as will be the Astros, A's and Angels
you called them a dead team which could also be used to describe the Rangers over the next couple of years. my point is that even if Seattle is a "dead" team over the next couple of years they will still be better than usWhat does that have to do with what I said?
