How time in the Arizona Fall League could put Rangers prospect Martinez on fast track

Should he continue to play at a high level against high-level competition – Martinez entered Tuesday batting .344 and slugging .563 in 32 at-bats – he could be in Double A Frisco by midseason.

“The reason we put him in this program was to face competition we feel like he’s going to face in 2019 and continue to build off that,” assistant farm director Paul Kruger said. “He could jump, yes. The idea is to get him into a full season to a place in which he can get off to a good start and kind of go from there.”

Everybody is signing managers except the Rangers. I hope somebody else doesn't sign the guy the really wanted.

There is a fine line between being thorough and missing the guy you really needed because you were still evaluating and researching. I am not sure which side of that fine line they are on currently.

This is the one I read that hurt. Best to pick best player even if not a pitcher although I thought Fulmer had a shot to get taken. Yet remember top 3 shortstops were heads above rest. Guys below really delivered as a whole. Huge disappointment

On the upside, last draft and even one before that looking pretty good overall

Also. Probably more than a hard luck pick and surely not considered a knee jerk finger pointing negligent pick......perhaps some of the failure of that draft was not as much as the pick but more how they seemed to push him along when he was just not succeeding in the pace desired and needed some patience....thus the overhaul on how they develop pitching currently.

Everything that lead to that pick though was a train wreck

True, but they still need a good manager and the decision is very important, thus the length of time they are taking.

As we saw in the 2011 WS the manager's decisions can win or lose you a WS or a playoff series.

You need to have the right players, the right manager, the right GM, the right developmental staff, and the right ownership.

I still blame Wash for quitting at the wrong time. lol

If he would have stayed we might have drafted Bregman.

Thus the need for situational hitting/protecting the plate.

Lol at Evan. Boston ranked 1st in the majors in batting average overall. By 9 points. It wasn't even close. They also led in OPS, slugging, and OBP.

To break it down situationally is kind of misleading. They probably led just about any way you slice it. The Rangers simply need better hitters period. Maybe if they did every situation wouldn't seem so critical.

The Rangers team batting average was only one point above the worst AL team. They simply don't hit very well whether they have 2 strikes, 1 strike, or 0 strikes.

Fraley answered some fans questions in a chat today. Here are a few of them

Realistically, how many seasons away would you say the Rangers are from making it back to the postseason?

Probably four years. Rangers are in a tough division. Houston is going to be good for several more years, and GM Billy Eppler is rebuilding the Angels' system. Oakland is on the rise, too. Playing 76 games in the West each season can be a daunting task. This is not the creampuff AL Central.

Who are the top free agents you'd like to see the Rangers pursue during the course of the offseason?

Hard to see the Rangers making a deep dive into free agency this winter. The timing in the club's cycle is not right. If they do get involved, LHP Patrick Corbin and RHP Nathan Eovaldi would be appealing in that each is 29. Expect the Rangers to do more bottom-feeding. RHPs Alec Asher and Rockwall's Jake Thompson, both of whom went to Philadelphia in the Cole Hamels deal, are out there.

Which Rangers player could be due for a breakout year in 2019? Any players you could see getting called up and making an immediate impact?

Truly believe Joey Gallo is just scratching the surface of his immense talent. The Rangers could help Gallo by anchoring him at one position. Moving around the field is hard on a younger player.

Of course the Rsngers are a bad hitting team, their OPS+ is very bad but they were above lead average in Runs. This is fools gold IMO The telling factor to me is their strikeouts where they are one of the worst teams You can see from their approach it is all or nothing I just don't buy in to this new school baseball.

I have not looked into stats for this but I would bet the shift hurts the Rangers a lot. It used to be a skill hitting behind the runner.
