It is not good.

But there is a long list of GM moves worse than this.

My personal favorite:

The Bucks actually traded up to draft a kicker in the 2nd round. And that kicker really sucked. He only lasted 1 season.

As for the Cousins thing?

Yeah, the Redskins got a 3rd.

But had the traded him at peak value they could have gotten multiple firsts or perhaps the #2 pick from San Fran.

And if they were really smart?

They could have traded Cousins to San Francisco. Then traded down accumulating more picks and drafted either Watson or Mahomes.

But no.

Instead they failed to extend him, failed to trade him and let him walk for a single compensatory pick.

That failure set the Redskins back a more than either of these trades hurt Houston.

The difference in value between the #2 pick and the third rounder the Skins got is greater than the value of all the picks the Texans gave up. And that is before even factoring in that the Texans got a couple good players.

The mistake, as you said was in not extending Tunsil.

Very far from the worst GM move ever. The Redskins alone have probably made 5 worse than this since Snyder took over.
Cousins wasn't bringing back any 1st round picks, cmon now...

He absolutely would have.

He was the highest paid QB in football for a few minutes.

Definitely would have returned a 1st if the dealt him at peak value. Maybe a high 1st too.

Unfortunately, Washington under Bruce Allen and with the support of some here had zero understanding of what peak trading value is in the NFL. Perhaps it had something to do with that "we're close" belief that Allen publicly shared with us. Here's the actual statement

“We’re in the middle of the pack. We’ve been in the middle of the pack the last three seasons.”

“It means you’re close.”

Just looking back at this old thread, how did O'Brian get away with this trade?
And the hopkins trade, i still don't understand. This is, was criminal.
