My biggest fear was some Red, White, and Blue nonsense. That would have been tough for me.

It was a crappy, joyless list from the get-go. Red Hogs was weird but at least had a little flavor to it.

Honestly, though, the name doesn't matter much. I mean there's a football team called the Cardinals and somehow we're cool with it. Giants is pretty bad, too.

it is a combination of cancel culture gone wild and $$ to me. without the mindset of social pressures, the track record of Snyder and who he is...ad revenue would have never been pulled in the first place. the argument thus falls in my mind as a chicken and egg one.

and knowing you as a poster for many yers, Im quite certain you have valid reasons for feeling as you do regarding the name.

There were many protests against that name long before the internet, impolite society, and terms like "PC," "cancel culture" and the like came to vogue. many of these protests went unreported, while most garnered little more than a blurb in newspapers, radio, and TV, which were the make-up of the 4th estate during those times. Neither of the last three owners of this franchise (Marshall, Cooke, Snyder) buckled under the knowledge of these protests and when asked outright dismissed any notion that change was coming.

I guess my point is that I disagree with you about "cancel culture" as it covers every aspect of our society and at some point involves everyone depending upon the subject. Where we agree is as noted in your directing attention towards money. That, I believe is the sole reason for this change.

Agreed! It could also be a misrepresentation of what it means to have that "Commanders" banner displayed. Here's what I mean...

They have declared that it is a "roll-out" of the new name. Suppose that roll-out means an unveiling of names that were considered before revealing the actual one. "We considered this name [show "commanders"] before ultimately settling on... "(They could literally do this for a few considered names before revealing the real one)
