i highly doubt anyone will trade for bryz or briere.. there's just no reason to do it.. they're both probably going to be bought out, their contracts aren't friendly enough to give something up just to 'beat the rush' for their services

i also really don't see the flyers improving unless they're patient.. i dont like any of the potential trade scenarios i've seen and i absolutely loathe any offer-sheet idea.. no team can afford to give up 4+ first round picks any more.. if the flyers were 1 piece away from winning the cup next season, then maybe you do it, but i dont think even pietrangelo would bring the cup to philly next year

just far too much clamor about needing a stud dman in flyer-land for my tastes.. you play a more defensive and conservative system, and this team is perfectly fine defensively. i whole-heartedly believe that.

Briere, 35, has an annual salary cap hit of $6.5 million for the remaining two years of his contract, but is owed only $5 million in actual salary -- $3 million next season and $2 million in 2014-15.

This is probably the only incentive for other teams IMO.

That's why I thought that Torts would have been a good fit.At least learn how to play defence, and then unload him,if need be.

that's true.. the 5 mil-pill this season would probably not be appreciated though.. to me it just doesn't make sense to trade for briere at this point.. but who knows, the habs traded for gomez's retarded contract and gave up a future all-star (mcdonagh) to do so.. maybe there's another bob gainey out there somewhere

i wouldn't hate a torts signing.. i hate torts with a passion, but the flyers have the players to play his style i think.. and his fights w/ the philly media would be 5-star entertainment, even if the team did suck.

seems the flyers are sticking with lavy though. if they were going to fire him, surely they would've done so by now

the sharks did something similar to chicago to end up w/ niemi.. they offer sheeted hjallmarsson and then i think traded for niemi's rights and signed him

that being said, i'm not a big buff fan.. i think he's a little over rated.

very interesting idea on stalberg though.. i think that would be a great

Now I just researched Niemi extremely briefly, but I think it was that he and the Hawks went to arbitration and the Hawks let him walk, where from there the Sharks swooped in to sign him.

I just can't see it working without Byfuglien also being a free agent. Offer sheeting Bogosian would just be stabbing the Jets in the back, and I doubt that they'd turn around and trade us Byfuglien. Not to mention that they have $28mil in cap space.

I hate Torts w a passion as well. That being said, I'd subscribe to Center Ice just to catch Torts and all the Flyers games. Furthermore, Torts and the Philly media would be well worth the money spent. Maybe Torts joins Millbury on the NBCSN?

don't take this personally, but we're putting you on the high school sports beat for a little while.

Lol. If we had to trade a big piece to acquire a dman, who do you trade for? I'll leave Letang off. Yandle, Pitrangelo, or Shattenkirk?

Yandle is definitely 5 mil plus a year.I would hope Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk would be just over 4 mil a year.

All three would be the puck carrying offensive d-man the Flyers' need.I think any one of the 3 would be a hell of a pickup.

I wonder if Coburn and Coots would get it done?

I bet that could get it done, but I don't think I'd do that. I really just don't think trading for stud dmen is ever the right play. They're just too expensive. The flyers don't have the depth to give up the players it would take to get one and not have a serious hole elsewhere. Gotta go with patience and hope that ghost, gust, or pulock :-))) pan out in 2-3 years and you have a solid core for them to join.

Or keep going with the buy low strategy like the schenn deal and hope they pan out. Runblad is an option there. Blum hasn't done much in Nashville. I'd still like at mike green in Washington if they're trying to move cap space.

Unfortunately,it's not Homers' call there.Snider is at the age where he wants to see another championship, and therefore some highly unusual moves/offers are made.It was Snider who ended the goalie caroussel(bad, overpaying fucking move)

And Bill Meltzer would agree w you awaz. It's the Flyers fans like me who need to be patient and just let the boys groom into their roles. I will be okay w whatever Homer does at this point. I will say this however, the Flyers need to shred some cap space. Bryzy and Briere is a start. Timo's contract has only 1 year and maybe we will be in better standing as far as cap space? Doesn't solve the dmen issues.
