Think Charlie Strong is going to get one of these vacant HC positions....

Sure, there are several differences there. First of all one hasn't coached much at the P5 level. And one hasn't been at the same school long enough to establish a real track record.

Do I think Taggart will be the next big name in college coaching? Not really, but who knows? :noidea:

Picking on just his record though and trying to use it against entirely different situations seems unproductive.

Taggart isn't afraid of a project. That's all he's done. Go into down teams and rebuild them. He simply hasn't rebuilt them and then stayed. He also hasn't been at Oregon long enough to know what his ceiling might be at that level. Which means he's almost entirely an unknown at FSU.

Not as amusing as five in a row in football and four in a row in basketball mind you, but whatever. ;)

FSU has had a top 5 recruiting class the past 5 years.

Florida hasn't had a top 5 recruiting class since 2013

Currently, Taggert has Oregon as #6 overall with 16 - 4 star recruits -- most of any school in the country.

Miss St was #10 with 21 - 3 stars -- most of anyone in the country

That really is the big deal with Taggart and one those only looking at his record are entirely missing.

If he can get very high rated talent from Florida to travel across the country to commit to playing in the rainy NW he's a sure slam dunk for keeping those kids far closer to home and bringing in killer classes.

What's his ceiling for wins with those classes? No one can know that.

FSU has dropped to #40 overall on the recruiting list since having some decommits.

BAMA currently at #34.

These 2 have killed it the past 2-3 years so I'm not sure how many spots they have left.

Can't be worse than Jimbo's pass happy, QB killing offense. Hell maybe Taggert can recruit better Oline talent?

Just me, but I'll go with the guy who's proven to be able to develop 3* (Mullen) over someone who has yet to prove he can win with a slew of 4*.

I'd think the 3* guy could do even better with 4*.

He was bringing in the best recruiting class in the history of Oregon football in his first full year of recruiting.

At Oregon.

Oregon people. Oregon.

HC's are responsible for the culture and bringing in both talent and a staff that can develop it.

At this point I'd go with the guy that is a proven recruiter that is unknown about his coaching ceiling, than a guy that hasn't ever really seriously challenged for a national title while being with the same team long enough to entirely own the program.

Gamble for sure, but one you have to take.

All he's proven is he can rebuild programs and recruit the helloutofit not even in his home state WHICH IS LOADED. He's 41.

Proven winner at Miss St with 3 stars.. Sounds like Nebraska

Nebraska hasn't developed 3* or 4* talent. Hence the firings over the last 13 years.

But this isn't about Nebraska is it?

I love the "SEC SEC" cheers in a FSU thread

Is there a new Florida/Mullen thread you all can go to for proof that Mullen actually can be in the top 10 recruiting classes consistently?

Knowing oregon likes offensive minded coaches, maybe they steal J. smith away from oregon state?

Yeah, but Florida was.

Because Urbs can recruit. Can Mullen? MSU with 21 current 3 star athletes.. Mullen has done a good job with 3 star athletes but you and I both know you need to hit some home runs to win your conference and a natty

Can you flip from Beaver to Duck overnight? That seems to be grounds for a mass shooting during the rainy season especially. Can you get guns in Oregon? :D
