Here’s the sad thing. I caught the end of Armageddon on tv yesterday: So compelling. The characters are well-fleshed-out. The conflicts between the characters are apparent. The stakes and the tension emanating from the stakes are immediate and constant, the twists and turns are logical to the issues at hand, the sacrifices are heartfelt, and the resolution is triumphant.... and this is a Michael Bay movie about sending oil drillers into space to save the Earth, and the antagonist is a rock. How the hell could Star Wars, with an unlimited budget come up with what was presented to us over three movies?

Rey was defeated pretty handily by the Emporer but she only came back and won because she channeled every Jedi in history in order to win. And Luke actually told her he believed she could do it when he visited her as a force ghost. It was set up pretty obviously during the movie.
If this is what is defined as an adequate conflict and resolution in a movie/trilogy/saga, that’s the most damning thing of all.

Well the fact they introduced a foe to her in the last movie eliminates the film from being a sequel or part of a trilogy. The Disney trilogy will forever be taught in film schools on how not to develop a story line. The Disney Trilogy became a PG version of the slasher films where it quasi follows a plot but really doesn’t make sense with the previous movies.

Finn mocks the movie for us, the audience, at several points:
- Poe lightspeed skipping. Finn: “How do you know how to do that?”
- Starting their scavenger hunt in an area of a planet where they are having a once in 42 year party. Finn: “Well, that’s lucky.”
Poe Hotwires a speeder. Finn: “How do you know how to do that?”
- When stormtroopers start to jet pack. Finn: “They fly now?”
Other characters do it too...
- When Destroyer destroys a planet. Poe: “(ships) have planet-killing weapons. Of course they do.”
Kylo: “I sense unease about my appearance.”
Hux sarcastically: “About the mask? No sir. Well done.”
Other general: “I like it.”

So Finn DID have a purpose after all!

I do have one small hope for this movie:

there’s a way for force-ghost Luke to redeem his character from the shitty job Rian Johnson did in evolving it.

It has to be done in a way where it emphasizes the optimism and compassion which is at the core of his character, and it also has to be consequential to the plot WITHOUT being pivotal. If it’s too pivotal, then this trilogy is about him and not our main characters.
It’ll be tough to ride this line, but I think it can be done.
Boom.

It was rushed.

Rey faces no real trials or tribulations.

things were too easy for her.

she defeats a virtual Sith Lord in the TFA.

She pulls things out of thin air.

luke was the son of Vader and still went On a journey.

Rey was basically ROTJ luke by the end of TFA

i enjoyed it, but most likely because i'm a nerd. huge sw fan.

i think it would've worked better as 2 movies, but abrams did the best he could to put a real sw story together after rian johnson detonated the entire meta.

don't get me wrong. i liked the last jedi as its own entity, but the ending left nowhere to go in the established sw mythos.

>>I caught the end of Armageddon on tv yesterday<<

probably the stupidest movie i've ever seen, and that's really saying something considering i saw the day after tomorrow and battlefield earth.

rise of skywalker was far from great. like 2 out of 5 stats being generous. but armageddon gets maybe 1/10000000th of 1/1000000000000000000000 of a star.

Not true, but don't let that fact get in the way of your very riveting story

Yeah. I don’t know ppl keep saying nothing could be done after E8. Tv series writers do brilliant things every week with tons of storylines. I can’t believe Last Jedi was such a cluster that the ppl who run Star Wars couldn’t put together an even mediocre movie. it was never going to be a 7+. At the least, We could have gotten a 6. We barely got a 2 (and that’s being generous).
As I predicted here. They tried to do too much to ‘fix’ stuff instead of just making a good movie. It’s trash.

I just watched it again (second time), because it's on amazon prime.

I was really hoping that it would be a decent movie after knowing my expectations would not be met... but it isn't. The movie is just horribly written. Some of the characters are great, but the writing is just so bad... :tsk:
