Detroit Lions' Lombardi: Shackles coming off Stafford this fall

Apparently, Our offense was too conservative last year

I am getting the feeling that Caldwell was pulling the strings on offense last year instead of letting Lombardi do his thing or something in between. Maybe thats why it was such a clusterfuck.

Maybe we become more organized now. First sign of hope I have seen for the offense other than Ebron spending every other week this offseason with Stafford.

I am still not buying all the talk of run conservative offense. Even last year they had 600 attempts. Does not seem conservative to me. I would still be happy having a road grading rushing attack OL to assist Matt in the passing game. Just as it helped Romo last year. Lions have not had a defense respect our rushing attack since CJ and Matt have been together. I have been wanting teams to pay for either rolling coverage to CJ or having 8 in the box. Haven't seen it in 6 years.

I think you guys are trying too hard to read between the lines here. We can pass the same amount as last year (or even less than last year) and still be more aggressive in the passing game. Less dink-and-dunk, and more shots down the field is what I got out of that...

This is the aimless shit that makes fans wonder what the hell is and has been going on. The OC says shackles come off. Head Coach says we need to run more. I doubt they are on the same page and thats not very reassuring at draft time.

I expected a more upbeat passing attack last year when we were told Lombardi was bringing the Saints style offense to Detroit. Funny if by Saints they meant the Ravens then I agree.

Lombardi's comments about "taking more shots down the field" contradicts Caldwell's conservative approach comments.

Very troubling that this staff is not on the same page with each other., but Mayhew was never on the same page w Schwartz either.

You're absolutely correct, but a lot of the posters here read what they want to read and simply bend any comment anyone from the team makes to fit their hypothesis that the team sucks balls.

Then again you and are are just too optimistic. We seem to be forgetting already that we went 5-11 last year... oh wait, that's 11-5 (not that you'd know that from the estrogen-fueled rants in here lately...)

All that they really said was they would spread the ball around more and will let Stafford go down field more. Let's be real here, every coach is going to tell you that he wants to run the ball more, be more efficient in the run game, but we are not built to be a run first team. Our offense is supposed to be modeled after New Orleans who is not a run first team.

I've read several articles on different sites and I don't recall Caldwell ever using the word conservative.
