Stafford needs no excuses anymore, and certainly not excuses like Jay Cutler who was frequently sidelined by a pulled ovary.

Last season they said Stafford would regress without CJ. That turned out to be false. He was better than ever.

The DL was putrid. The LB core was devastated by Levy not playing again. The DBs were just ok. The OL was young and just ok. The RBs were injured. The WRs were absent aside from Tate. And the tight ends were a joke as usual.

Not to make excuses, but to highlight that Matt Stafford carried this team. What other position showed up week-in-and-week-out?

Stafford is a top QB in the league. After this season he was going to get a franchise tag worth more or this same deal from a team. The Bears likely would have been one of those teams offering him the richest contract in history.
