He's closer to a Kam Chancellor tall slow hard hitting not a great coverage guy prototypical SS. if he's cheap(3-5 per year) he'd be a great signing.

they would be better off signing Eric Weddle over Illoka imo. However, saying that, I would favor re-signing IAQ and drafting another SS with better coverage ability. There are quite a few in this years draft but you'll likely have to get him by that 3rd round comp pick or hope one is still there at our 4th. IAQ, may not gain in coverage but he's tight in the box and keeps within range for run support and routes in front of him.

Illoka was known at BSU for not having good eyes and instincts for coverage as he played deep. I haven't watched enough Cincy games to say otherwise or if he's changed.

They are better options in the draft this year to groom or may get lucky and one hits his stride

What I mean is it's similar to grabbing a young safety from a good defense hitting his prime. I'll be very happy to land him if we do. With our shitty ass D line, We need a vet back there, not some rookie.

I'll trust him until he does something incredibly stupid. I won't judge him on free agency because:

(1) We don't know his vision.
(2) I don't expect him to bring in a bunch of high profile free agents to begin with. Maybe one or two.

Although I might be a little disappointed if he doesn't bring in an OT with some starting experience.
