It appears as though the Western Hockey League's Spokane Chiefs are ready to jump on the outdoor hockey bandwagon.

Spokane radio station KXLY is reporting that the Chiefs are set to announce that they will host the Kootenay Ice at Avista Stadium on Saturday, January 15th 2011 at a news conference later on Wednesday.

Although the Calgary Hitmen announced that they would be hosting the Regina Pats at McMahon Stadium, the Chiefs and Ice match would be the first ever WHL game to be contested outdoors as the Hitmen/Pats game does not occur until late-February.

Go Chiefs!

It'll be the first outdoor hockey game ever to be postponed due to rain.

Actually, was just now reading up on the pleasant city of Spokane on the most trusted website on the net - Wikipedia. Looks like I have to retract or at least revise my previous post. Turns out they only get half as much rain as Seattle. So instead of raining 360 days a year in Seattle, in Spokane it only rains 180 days in a year.

Hehe, I hear that a lot, but in all actuality (as you learned), Spokane is a very dry city. We'll see about the winter though. Last year it barely snowed at all, two years ago there was at least 2 feet on the ground for 4 months. It'll be interesting for sure.

Personally, I'd prefer the game to be held at Joe Albi rather than Avista Stadium, but I can't complain too much. The Chiefs will probably be the only hockey team I root for that will ever play in an outdoor game.
