Sorry to post this, but the Heat badly whiffed on Dame - In large part due to sheer arrogance

There's negotiating and there's not returning calls or answering calls. Portland chose the latter. Not real difficult to understand.

lol @offering an All Star caliber guard in your initial offer being insulting.

Pro-Tip...if Cane and/or Wiggy agrees with you, real good chance that you're wrong.

Where is the news that they wouldn't take calls coming from? The Heat, who are butthurt?

The only piece of immediate value was Herro in their offer, who was going to force another needed trade (either moving Herro or Simons). Portland asked for their best offer back in July per Shams. They stood pat thinking they had no competition, crickets. Once other teams entered the mix just before the eventual trade to the Bucks, the Heat come with excuses and accusations. Does it even matter? Did they find a 3rd team that would swap more Portland appropriate players/draft capital for Herro? If not, picking up the phone or not doesn't matter. Even if they did, the maneuvering needed to make sure the Heat didn't take on additional salary makes the whole situation messy.

Except he’s not that

He’s not even maxey and he’s not yet that

He’s not Haliburton

All star caliber is like a top 7-10 guard in the conference

He’d be 4th best on the Celtics alone

He’s more of a Jordan poole right now
Just saw this post. Comparing Herro to Jordan Poole is insulting to Herro. People forget how good this guy can be because of the finals run Miami made without him last year, that’s all.

4th best guard on Celtics roster? Brown, Jrue, and who’s the 3rd? Derrick White? Lol

It’s also insulting to maxey to call him maxey

He’s probably between the two

But he’s closer to poole than maxey imo

I said from the beginning I didn’t think they had the assets unless someone really liked Herro

If Herro was a borderline all star he could’ve gone for 2 firsts and they can get a deal done

But the heat never came close to a top offer

Once Portland chose this path it was clear miamj was out of the running

And negotiating you don’t start off by insulting them

You seem to be missing that part
Very true.

At the very least, there is a wide difference in opinions on the evaluation of Herro and how much positive value he has considering the contract. Obviously some teams would value him more than others- but it would not surprise me if some teams out there did not think he carried much positive value considering the contract.

For him to be the centerpiece was never going to go get the job done- especially to a team who's evaluation was not particularly high on him.

How nice I'm being referenced when not around.

Maybe, just maybe, the Heat fucked up and it's you that's got the irrational hate for the Celtics...

And FYI, the original post had absolutely nothing to do w/ "Miami's initial offer". It was a completely separate negotiation before free agency and before Lillard asked out.

Negotiating 101: If you hope to acquire a 32 PPG scorer, it's probably not good for business to openly mock the opposing GM beforehand. "Good faith" does in fact matter and that is where the Heat dropped the ball.
Good Faith does matter- especially if a team is trying to hold you hostage that really doesn't have any leverage in the first place.

Raises hand to say I’d take Derrick White over Herro.

They should’ve gotten harden

Easily could’ve topped that and still had assets left over
How does Miami top the Clippers deal?

Derrick White is a baller and he is a plus defender. White can do just about anything on the court. Herro, not so much. If you need a guy that can shoot and score, the value is there. White is the better all-around player without a doubt

You know this from our Mitchell convos. I’m definitely a guy who places the most value on two-way play.

True but Mitchell is more of a two-way player than you believe. He might not be a great defender but he works on that side of the ball. He's a much better defender than Herro but I guess that isn't saying much
