As for that pass rush..... We sacked Romo 4 times, and should have had a couple more if we tackled better. In comparison, the Chiefs had 3 sacks.

I'll give Romo some credit for being elusive and extending a few plays, especially on 3rd down.

That's where he did some of the worst damage too. We stay disciplined in coverage, and this is a much different ballgame.

It's already been stated but here's the non-negative spin of the game.

Injuries happen, and you have to live with them. . . . but Denver was missing arguably 5 of their 6 best defenders for most of the day. He may not be flashy and he gets plenty of flak, but Ayers is a huge part of our pass rush. He is great at setting the edge and was abusing his tackle before the injury today.

Romo and his WRs had an incredible day that I don't think other QBs/WRs will have. The 70 yard TD to his rookie WR was an incredible catch; Tony Carter got a hand on it and the receiver had to use one hand essentially.

And as much as everyone hates to complain about it, some of the scrambles Romo had there were obvious holds. Yes, there's holding nearly every play. But usually with those scrambling plays where the hold happens very close to the QB it's called. Wasn't the case today.

In the end, I'm not too worried. There were a lot of things working against us today that won't happen often. And we still won.

It also doesn't help that the refs outright refused to make a holding call against the cowboys. No one could get near romo and if someone did a olineman just tackled him and the refs ignored it...

Cali made a great point on FB.

When the offense struggled at times to put up points and had a bad day the last few years (See every game Tim Tebow played in) and the defense kept it close to give the offense a chance to win it, all that mattered at the end of the day was a win.

Well the Offense kept it close today while the defense was struggling and having a bad day. And being overlooked is the fact that Danny Trevathan made a great play to get that INT and gave his team a chance to win.

So in the end, in a close game, the Defense stepped up when it had to, and the Offense kept us in it.

They found a way to win. That is what good teams do. They can't all be 3 TD blowouts.

Yes I am. 500 yards is way to much. Did you guess over 500 yards passing today? I doubt it.

I wouldn't give two shits if the defense gives up 1000 yards but only allow 20 points. The yards are meaningless if they don't mean points. To give you an example Eli Manning is average a lot of yards per game and the giants are 0-5. Now, before you counter with the 48 point performance, the defense has done well for the first 4 games. Are we a shutdown D? Nope. Do we have questions marks especially after injuries? Likely. Before we go shitting a brick and throwing the D under the bus how about we let a trend develop.

You say numbers don't lie, and they don't, but they are easily manipulated. Going from a numbers standpoint, statistics are never good based on a sample size of one. If the defense is still letting the jaguars and the colts have wonderful days passing, we have an issue. If we go and hold the jags to like 7 and the colts to 20 or less, we are fine.

The days of shutdown defense that hold even good QBs to under 200 yards are gone. Now, you have to have a defense that can slow offenses enough to get the job done.

When the Broncos have Webster one on one a lot of the game with Dez Bryant one of the top 5 WR's in the NFL then yes I do expect that the Cowboys are going to go for 500 yards passing. That is not a shot at Webster in he is a rookie and a rookie is not usually going to win the battle with such a good player.

Honestly if you look at this pass defense last year they were top 3 in the NFL and the only thing that has changed is we have added DRC and changed out Ihenacho for Adams. They should be that good or possibly even better with the addition of DRC so to me I am not worried yet of how they are going to do. Once Champ returns that pushes DRC to the other side to have to man up against a #2 receiver and pushes Harris to the Slot where we got abused yesterday. It then pushes Webster and Carter off the field (the two guys that got lit up yesterday). Then throw in after next Sunday the Pass Rush gets possibly the best pass rusher in all of football back on the field which means easier match ups across the DL for everybody.

Now I don't think the defense will be perfect by any means but even just finishing somewhere middle of the pack for this defense is good enough with the offense we have. They are good at causing turnovers and all those guys returning should help that even more. In our Superbowl years we did not have a top defense but we had a great situational defense.

This is no where near time to panic considering all the injuries and just remember the All-Pro players we are actually getting back.

The simple fact is this defense is just not that good. It is ranked 29th in the NFL right now. OK? 29th.

Yes, they are missing Von Miller. I will say that they are getting sacks. Yes, teams are throwing a lot, but that is a cop out.

They are making it to easy for opposing QBs.

If there is no concern about the defense at this point, then we are being deluisional. Hopefully Von Miller will make a difference. He should make some.

I think Harris is the best corner on the team. I think he should be starting over DRC.

Dead on and finally someone gets it. Denvers D should get better but it is a concern and anyone that doesnt think so is blind or just plain ignorant. I do expect it to improve with some guys back.

A lot of you have already answered those with the sky is falling mentality, but I'll just add in my two thoughts as well.

First, the Broncos defense does not have to be great this season. They just won a game, on the road, in which the defense managed only 3 stops all day. This offense really is that good, they're going to put 35 points on anybody. The Chiefs have a good defense so far, but is their offense explosive enough to hang with the Broncos, even if the Chiefs defense can slow our offense down? My guess is no.

Secondly, the Broncos were missing Champ Bailey, Von Miller, Robert Ayers, Wesley Woodyard, and Chris Harris for all or portions of the game yesterday. That's nearly half your starting defense. That's 2 of your top 3 corners, your two best pass rushers, and your defensive captain and leader. For comparison, how good do you think the Chiefs defense would be if they lost Justin Houston, Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, Sean Smith, and Brandon Flowers? They would take a hit for sure.

Thirdly, give Romo and the Cowboys some credit. Romo made some great throws, and the Cowboys came to play. I said all week I was worried about this game, that it was not going to be a pushover because the Cowboys have a lot of talent on offense and are capable of beating anyone in the NFL. I was particularly impressed with Romo's ability to move around and avoid sacks when the Broncos did get pressure. He played a heck of a game.

Finally, remember that at the end of the game, the bottom line is the defense, despite being shredded for most of the day, came up with two plays at the end to win the game. Tie game, 2 minutes left and what happens; sack by Phillips and pick by Trevathan. That sack was huge and I believe a big reason Romo threw the pick on the next play. Romo was getting pressure again, this time from Wolfe, and I believe that caused him to hurry and force a ball into tight coverage rather than take the checkdown to Murray who was wide open. And give Trevathan credit, he made a fantastic play to grab that interception.

Yes, the Broncos defense needs some work; but let's remember it was one game against a good opponent, on the road, with nearly half of your defensive starters out. Let's not panic yet.

I understand the defense hasn't played at the best level all year but then again when in a game and you are missing Champ Bailey, Chris Harris, Robert Ayers, Von Miller, and Wesley Woodyard it is expected that they will not be that great. You don't lose that much talent and not expect a drop off. Yes I didn't expect a 48 point kind of drop off but when Webster is having to play one on one against Dez Bryant for part of the game it is understandable why that offense had its way with our defense. The SKY IS NOT FALLING IN DENVER! All of those guys are huge impact players on our defense and all are expected back within the next week or two. That automatically makes this defense better. The Broncos also with Von Miller back will be able to drop more guys back into coverage as they will not need to blitz as much to generate a pass rush. Woodyard being back calling the plays should help the defense not to make the mental mistakes that it did. Champ and Harris being back should improve the coverage skills. Ayers being back helps the pass rush with Von Miller. All of those guys impact the game and the players around them.

All of these guys back also pushes lesser players to the bench like Webster and Carter who both got abused yesterday. It also pushes DRC to the 2nd best receiver instead of the best. Irving and Johnson are pushed to the bench with Woodyard and Miller back. Ayers gives the DL some better depth. It is a domino effect. I don't think people realize how much Miller impacted this defense last year. He was the best pass rusher in the NFL last year period. You put that in the game when teams are throwing the football 50 times and he maybe comes in and gets 5 sacks all by himself. Those are impact plays that this defense is missing at this time. It makes coverage easier, it makes life for the other players easier on the line, and Del Rio as a DC can call a whole new set of plays that were not in the book before Miller returns.

It's not a concern yet. Half the freaking defense was out! And it was one game. One.

I think maybe you're underestimating just how good Von Miller is. Dude is a one man wrecking ball. He's destructive. I expect the defenses performance to drastically improve once he's back on the field.

A good example of this was his rookie season. Remember how well the Broncos d was playing during that winning streak, then Von gets injured and we had to play without him in Minnesota. Look what happened; the Vikings, who weren't exactly an offensive juggernaut, were practically unstoppable.

I'm just saying, let's withhold judgment on this defense until we get Von back, he really is that much of a difference maker.

Exactly. What sucks is this was supposed to be the game of Miller's return. We really could have used him on d yesterday.

A return to health will help (as previously stated).

I want to give some love to a dude who I think is starting to show he belongs at the NFL level and is a key part of what we do up front.........Malik Jackson.

Omar Bolden seeing the field in meaningful snaps that are not Special Teams is always a bad thing. He looked lost out there. The pass defense should improve once we have Champ and DRC starting and Harris playing the slot guy (like it was originally designed).

Many don't like Tony Carter, but against a team's 3rd and 4th WR he is more than capable. Against Dez Bryant, not so much.....

Chalk up the win, get back in the lab and get health. 5-0 feels good.

Go Broncos!
