Someone tell me the pass defense is still ok.

The simple fact is this defense is just not that good. It is ranked 29th in the NFL right now. OK? 29th.

Yes, they are missing Von Miller. I will say that they are getting sacks. Yes, teams are throwing a lot, but that is a cop out.

They are making it to easy for opposing QBs.

If there is no concern about the defense at this point, then we are being deluisional. Hopefully Von Miller will make a difference. He should make some.

I think Harris is the best corner on the team. I think he should be starting over DRC.

Harris is the best nickel corner on the league, bit not the best cover corner. As Dumler said, Champ comes back, DRC moves over and Harris goes back to the slot. Thank God we got the jaguars next week to rest up guys and get healthy.

Of course there is concern but there is also no reason to overreact. 6 starters out at times yesterday. Does that not register? They had the worst possible circumstances against a good offense and still made a play at the end to give the offense a chance to win.

That is character. They did not give up after getting burned all day long.

Did you see the Eagles? They gave up. The looked beat. Broncos defense never gave up.

That is something you won't find in the stats.

The two biggest pieces of our defense against the pass have yet to set foot on the field. I don't get why that is so hard to understand? Has the pass defense struggled at times this year...YES. Have there been times that they have actually looked pretty good...YES. Yesterday was the worst game by a mile for DRC. Don't know what happened to him yesterday but the dude had been killing it up until yesterday. I tend to believe how he played before yesterday is more the norm with the occasional bad game thrown in every once in a while. Harris has been very consistent all year so again once he moves back to the slot the pass defense should solidify itself very well.

Throw in Von Miller makes it to where this defense does not have to blitz but a handful of times a game. He is that good! The defense has held up well in his absence until yesterday but he impacts every other player around him that much. Just look at yesterday and the fact that there were a lot of times the coverage on 3rd down was actually pretty good but Romo had all day to throw. With Von Miller that at least happens a lot less. He also does not miss tackles even on mobile quarterbacks like some of our guys did yesterday. That changes the whole outcome of that game. Just a couple more stops on 3rd down and Broncos once again win that game by 20 points.

Seriously I just can't understand the whole HIT THE PANIC BUTTON! Does one bad week by our defense negate all the good they had done before this even without the top 2 guys in Champ and Von? So if our offense has a bad week sometime will it be time to hit the panic button then as well and say "Defenses have figured us out we are doomed!"

Thats the cool thing about this offense, I dont think it matters what anyone figures out, theres just too many factors to cover. Even Knowshon is playing well. Just thankful that the o-line is doing as well as it is, especially after losing two starters.

Here is a good paragraph that sums up where the defense is at.

Here is the reason why the defensive numbers for the Broncos are somewhat skewed. Denver’s run defense ranks first in the league, allowing an average of only 69.6 rushing yards per game. Their pass defense is at the other end of the spectrum. They rank 32nd in the league against the pass, allowing an average of 347.0 passing yards per game.

The truth about the defense lays somewhere in between—it is not as strong against the run as the numbers indicate. It is also not as bad against the pass as the statistics show
.

So with the best offense in the league, an average defense will be just fine, and will get better when we have starters return.

This is why we need Champ out there. His experience and leadership-

Secondary Mishaps

We’ve seen this more than once this season. There seems to be some confusion in the secondary at times, which leads to a big play from the opposition. Pictured below is a 73-yard touchdown catch by Raiders receiver Denarius Moore.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Duke Ihenacho run into each other after the busted coverage, giving Moore a clear path to the end zone.

Against the Cowboys we saw a similar play. Pictured below is Dez Bryant splitting the Broncos defense after beating Rodgers-Cromartie down the left sideline.

Once again, Rodgers-Cromartie runs into his own man. This time, it's rookie cornerback Kayvon Webster. If it wasn’t for the hustle of Omar Bolden, this would have been an 83-yard touchdown instead of a 79-yard gain.

The Broncos must communicate better before the snap to avoid any sort of confusion. This will help put players in the correct position before it’s too late to stop a big play.

Good read but stuff I already new.

"Knew" ;)

Anyway, the takeaways from the article, are that A) The defense has been less disciplined than we know they can play, and B) many of the issues are easily fixed.

In other words, it's not necessarily a lack of talent, but a lack of execution, which is something that can happen with the loss of key guys. Look at what happened to the 49ers vs. the Patriots after Justin Smith was injured. This means the defense could start getting significantly better with Bailey and Miller coming back soon.

Yepp the pass defense looks great. Secondary was garbage again. Von Miller better be the answer.

Nobody ever said the pass defense was "great". Overall, they gave up 12 points as a D. Without the O fumbling the ball away and the Pick6, it is probably 49-12.

I'll take the win and wait to panic if the D gets lit up after it gets some people healthy.

Robert Ayers, Woodyard and Miller are 3 big pieces of what we do.

Once again who is in a panic? Yes those are 3 big pieces but its the Jags and the corners were getting beat on short slants all game. Corners were terrible and lost. Justin Blackmon was all they had at wr and still couldnt slow him down.

Well you got that. WAY below average!

Really, I do think getting Woodyard back and Miller is going to make a big difference.

Woodyard setting up the defense in the right place is huge and it definitely showed today. Champ also looked pretty darn rusty so glad this was his first game back to get his feet back under him. Can't have that next week. Even Chris Harris looked bad today...Not sure why that was. All in all the defense gave up a ton of yards but stopped them when it counted and gave up only 13 points. Even without 3 of our main pieces on defense today they kept the points low. Starting to think I need to start Blackmon every week for Fantasy football now.

not impressed by giving up 291 yards passing to the Jags. Sorry.

I'll bet you're even less impressed by giving up 315 to a depleted Packers team too. The difference? The Broncos won their game. How did the Ravens do?
