No, there wouldn't. 99% of the country sees those games and don't care. We'll just laugh at the areas that weren't good enough fan bases to fill up their own seats.

There were times when Foxboro was a ghost town as well, and once Brady retires, I'll bet there will be plenty of seats available for their games

GB has one of the best fan bases in the NFL, and they still had 8K tickets left.

It's not just a Bengals thing, it's 3 teams all struggling, and one team plays indoors where weather isn't a factor at all.

Also, there can be issues with local blackouts when stadiums/teams are being funded by the local government/county. This is one area that I think lawmakers are going to look at when/if they decide to broach this in greater detail.

Now you're just being ridiculous.

If you're comparing a city like Indy or Cincy to a region like New England, you're just plain nuts. The market sizes are astronomically different.

Gillette Stadium seats approximately the same amount of folks as PBS, but draws from a market size that is over 7 million (if you include areas such as Worcester and Providence). The Cincinnati metro area has a population of just over 2 million. Your market has three times the number of folks in which to sell seats.

It has nothing to do with quality of fans -- It has everything to do with math.

Start making sense.

Where do we have to go to get away from the blackout? Buying a ticket just isn't in the budget for me after Christmas, and I believe in this economy many others are in the same boat. Is Springfield outside the blackout area?

Blackout, imho, is :bullshit:

People just spent alot on Christmas and New Years Eve, and maybe can't afford the r*pe level prices of a ticket.

SO....... doesn't that mean, more people will be home to watch the game?!?!? maybe increasing the TV ratings levels???? So. they black it out. brilliant.:L

New England has sold out every game since Kraft took over.

As long as we have an owner worth having it will sell out.

As long as we have 7 million people to populate 68,009 seats it will sell out.

Every team has more than enough population to sell out if people care. If people don't, no game. Sucks for you.

This is simply not true. When ticket prices exceed the percentage of the population willing to purchase the seats, the market was not correctly set. It has absolutely nothing to do with quality of fans. It doesn't make you a better fan because you have a better paying job.

Are you 12?

Congress gets involved for what? Blacking out games that can't sell the seats isn't new policy. It's not illegal policy. It's not even unfair policy. If the city doesn't support the franchise, then why should their games be televised?[/QUOTE]

1 - the city does support the franchise.

2 - all of those people will probably want to watch it on TV.

In no other area in the country is the local team held in such disregard as Cincinnati. The Bengals may not even be the most popular NFL team in their own home town. 30 years of Mike Brown running into the ground, and an area where many people just don't pay much attention to them. for 3 years in a row people seem surprised when I tell them that the Bengals are in the playoffs and laugh like I'm telling them a joke. Every time they tune into a Bengal game, they are on the road (not blacked out) and losing. The Bengals need to reach a younger generation of fans. If I do go, I'm only buying one ticket and that's my own.

the economy in Cincinnati is a bit different, for what you pay for a 3 bed room house in Boston you could purchase a small mansion in Cincinnati. Living expenses are cheaper, but salaries are kept lower as a result. but, Fact of the matter is, there just aren't that many people interested in town who can also afford it.

He's trying to count the whole region as potential ticket buyers, but either way, $100 dollars for any NFL game anywhere is cheap as hell. I'm not sure you could get a preseason game here for that.

Here, tickets go for $60-$70 and that can land you in the lower section.

Bengals have cheap tickets. If you are used to buying your tickets for $60-70 and then the price jumps $30, plus parking, food, weather, etc...

You can stay home, go to a bar, and spend half that and still enjoy the game.

The way people experience sports as a whole is changing. People are starting to prefer to stay home here HD TV, bathrooms only a few feet away, and cheaper food and better climate control all come cheaper than some NFL tickets (playoffs or otherwise).

Again, this isn't a Benagls thing...both IND and GB are struggling to sell tickets, and GB has one of the best fan bases in the NFL. Times are changing, and people who spend money want better experiences, and often times, those experiences are not worth actually attending a game. Especially if you want to go, and you have 4 other buddies who don't/can't/won't spend the money.

the last preseason game, the ticket was given to me. Lots of the time season ticket holders hate going to preseason games and they will just give the tickets away.

Pre-season sucks. When I had season tickets, I rarely used the tickets. If I did, I used that as an opportunity to take one of my younger kids. I wouldn't take them to a regular season game. Too much BS

No, it's not cheap. That's twice the amount of money that was charged a regular season game.

You want to know how I know it's not cheap? Because it's not sold out.

You're lack of understanding of markets is comical.
