You guys need a water cooler. 279 posts and no signs of slowing down.

Just to add to the fun lets look at some high QB Picks by the Redskins:
1959 - Round 1 Pick 4 Don Allard
1960 - Round 1 Pick 4 Ritchie Lucas
1961 - Round 1 Pick 2 Norm Snead -- traded in 1964 for Sonny Jurgensen
1968 - Round 2 Pick 30 Gary Beban (Heisman winner) traded 1st round 1969 pick to acquire
1994 - Round 1 Pick 3 - Heath Shuler
2003 - Round 1 Pick 32 - Patrick Ramsey
2005 - Round 1 Pick 24 - Jason Campbell
2012 - Round 1 Pick 2 - Robert Griffin (Heisman winner)

Not too good and so certainly no guarantee when you pick No. 1. To be fair Sammy Baugh was chosen in the 1st round 6th Pick. That one worked out. There were 4 others drafted in the 1st round 3 in the 40s and one in the 50s that I didn't list.

2004 Rothlesberger taken 11th in 1st round, Skins took Sean Taylor 5th. Nothing against Sean but I would have loved to have had Big Ben
2005 Aaron Rogers taken 24th in 1st round, Skins took Carlos Rogers 9th and Jason Campbell who they traded up to get in the 25th round.

The NFL is loaded with 1st round busts at QB. No matter what SM does there is no guarantee. One thing I am sure of is the Redskins have not done well trading up to take a QB in the 1st round.

IM never in tank mode. And as for trade the farm, If its a Luck/Manning type... i would be ok with trading up. So yes if there is a QB that comes from a pro style offense, with the ability to read defenses.. no pre-existing injury history and no signs of narcissism.... Sure go for it.

And while there is no exact science... I think we can all agree spread/option QBs with a history of injury or coming from a system that has ZERO basis in a pro style game should be avoided.

I'm with you on that one.... but there's not many "pro style" offenses in college these days.

So here are my questions:

1. What makes a QB elite?
2. Are they made or basically born to be one?
3. Does it matter if said QB is drafted in the 1st round, if he is elite or will become elite?

1. IMO, QBs that win when the personnel around them change and can elevate an otherwise average/below average team is elite.

2. Clearly made, some of it is natural. You don't just become an elite QB, you have to work on your craft. Having great natural talent and physical skills helps, but the list of elite QB present and in the past are full of guys that don't have all the prototype talent and or physical attributes.

3. Of course not :)

1. An elite QB is more than a game manager, it is a person that can lift teams up and carry them at times. Even John Elway needed a run game and Marino and Jurgensen never had a run game or defense.
2. I believe the answer is both. I think there are things inherent in elite QBs that can't just be taught but the greats have those talents and then are taught how to use those talents. Quick correction decision making, quick release and feel for pass rush/pocket are something you are born with.
3. Tom Brady, Joe Montana and Johnny U say no.

well thanks for the cliche but the fact is the cub-bard wasnt bare as you pretend it was
Dad you listed a handful of players just as I did. That was no cliche, it is simply a fact that every team has a handful of good players, including bad teams. And just as nobody would claim we have a solid base because we have a few good players the fact is New Orleans was a bad team, again they were 3-13 and obviously 3-13 is a bad team. They then went to the NFC Championship Game right after they got Drew Brees.

Anyway enough about the Saints, obviously I won this one. (Smilieface)

As to your other poiint I have no idea if that guy exists in this draft, that's for SM to decide. But with a new and young right side of the OL, a guard in the pipeline, and great skill position players I think we already have that foundation you speak of already in place or pretty damn close.
