If we have another top 5 pick, no. There isn't a QB that is worthy. The potential to bust is too high. Leverage the pick for additional high picks and try and find a Wilson or brees later in the draft. Also gives you resources to draft the top safety, or center, etc.

Ok and thats where we disagree.

Really? Go back to your list and tell me how many of those guys were drafted in the top 5 of the draft & are still w/ their original team. I see a handful - Cam, Rivers, Eli, Ryan and Luck & Luck is the only true elite QB of that bunch (perhaps Rivers but really none of the rest - not on a consistent basis). There are quite a few QBs taken in the top 5 who never really amounted to much. Not saying that this can't work but be careful. This one is not as obvious as it appears.

That definitely seems to me what you and shark are saying. If not then my bad. But also if not then why not draft a QB in the 1st? (keeping in mind there would have to be one there worthy of the pick)

What we are saying and HAVE been saying is that when you are so desperate to find a Franchise QB, the odds that you over rate a QB prospect go up. Its the main reason why guys like Clausen, J. Russell, Mike Vick, Ryan Leaf and yes RG3 all went as high as they did. Because teams are willing to over look read flags in the pursuit of the magic bullet.

If one happens to be there great. But you build a team by taking high reward lower risk positions when ever possible. YOU become a perennial joke when you spend 20 years thinking.... well if we could ONLY find a franchise QB. Thinking like this is WHY teams make bone headed trades for QBs.

So why hasn't Phillip rivers ever won anything if he is so good?

Rivers has had some elite years imo and may have the best mid-rangle/long-range ball placement into tight windows in the NFL. I think it has a lot to do with the HCs Rivers has had far as him never winning anything. Marty Schottenheimer from 2004-2006 and Norv Turner from 2007-2012. We'll see if Rivers and Mike McCoy can mesh.

So why hasn't Phillip rivers ever won anything if he is so good?

1. SD has been a contender often during his time there.
2. A good QB doesnt guarantee a SB. But its the most important piece.

So I'll ask again. What has he ever won? And if we had rivers today, would we be winning?

I get what you're saying but you dont have to reach or talk yourself into somebody. Im not saying we have to take a QB this year no matter what. Simply that if theres somebody there, its the best option.

We'd be much better. Then if we drafted well around him we'd contend.

Romo hasnt ever won anything but hes a damn good QB whether we like it or not. We'd be way better off with him.

Also, if rivers was in this draft and we had the 5th pick, would you be willing to trade up to move into position to draft him?

Rivers has won plenty

No we would not be contenders today. Who is making that argument? This isn't about today, it's about what is best long term.

Assuming GMSM builds a pretty solid team in a few years we will go a lot further with a Philip Rivers level QB than a game manager. So that's the argument for finding that guy sooner rather than later. As Breed says Rivers was handcuffed not only by poor playoff coaching but bad defenses as well. Earlier you said you'd love to be in Buffalo's position, just in the hunt. So what's wrong with Rivers and his 14 win seasons again if you feel this way?

Dude, chill out. I Don't disagree. He is a good QB. So what would you give Up to draft a rivers In the next draft if we had to move up?

So let me ask, what guarantees that Cousins or fuck for that matter Griffin CANT be a Rivers level QB?? Because the vibe I am getting continuously is that we are basically hoping for a new coach this time next year, ad likely a new QB as well. Granted neither Cousins or Griffin look like the man right now. BUt whats wrong with stop gapping one or the other (both if realistically affordable), build the rest of the team with those high round picks. Take a developmental QB later in the draft, and giving the coach we have more than 30 seconds to fix this thing??

Well if theres not a QB there for us next year than sure take a 6th round flyer and have him compete with cousins or something.

The problem is, every draft there is ALWAYS a QB that gets hyped into the top ten. Rarely are they actually WORTHY of the pick. QB is the one position above all others that teams and more importantly fan bases are willing to reach for. IF our last QB draft tells you anything its that the prospect of a franchise guy trumps any reservations and once a team (and god forbid this fanbase) falls in love with one of these guys, logic goes out the window. And while I HOPE SMGM can control Danny, some times Dollars do override logic.

Nope wouldnt do it.
Then through all this debating, you agree with us? It is better to spend those picks on other holes, make the rest of the team strong, and pick up a QB in later rounds. The cost isn't sort the move up for anyone not named Brady, Peyton, or Aaron or luck
