While I agree that WVU is out on "an island", they can still recruit from where they prev recruited. I can see your point in the extra travel time to in conf games as a detriment. In TCU's case, their recruiting field hasn't changed at all and being a Texas school, they have only to adapt to being in an AQ conf.
as for the bold part, i think that has more to do with them still being fresh off that bcs buster/rose bowl champs status. doing what they did goes a long way, heck even bsu still benefits from that status as well. over time TCU's national name brand status will take a bit of a hit, give them a few years where they are considered the bottom of the b12 and their recruiting will nose dive as well.
the problem for wvu is that they recruit florida, but have always done so as a member of a conference with a florida school. they dont play in florida anymore and the net result of that has been a decline in florida recruiting. granted they have seen an increase in texas recruiting, but not enough to make up for the lost florida recruiting.
