Expect the Penguins to announce Sidney Crosby's contract extension on Sunday. Over $100 million dollars with an AAV of close to $9 mil per.

I love this. The cap just jumped up, yet his hit is about the same. Great deal... as long as he plays at least every other season, heh.

lol. those words kept popping in my head when I read the $100M. that is batshit crazy. is that the biggest deal ever in the NHL?

also was he UFA this year or RFA? I know even if he was UFA there was no chance anyone else signs him but I didn't realize is contract was up.

That will make him the highest paid heel in the league, I believe.

Why would they resist it? The issue with these contracts has always been the unreasonable years tacked on at the end like a player is going to actually play when they're 42 for a million bucks or whatever.

A 12-year deal would put Sid at 36. That's not exactly unrealistic.

because they investigated other long term deals so I expect them to treat this the same way. but they won't as its Crosby and Mario word has it its front loaded. similar to Luongos in a way

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Expect Crosby deal to be front-loaded, will be 12 or 13 years in length. Details still being finalized over next few days.

A rumoured deal that will expire when a player is 36 or 37 is quite different though from a deal that expires when a player is 42. I just don't know if I want to be the insurance company on the hook for the Crosby contract.

The league needs a healthy Crosby and I hope he can stay healthy.

Agreed. The only reason Crosby isn't playing at 36 is because he's not healthy. And the league isn't going to look into this deal to protect the insurance company or Ron Burkle's piggy bank.

I understand wanting to lock him up long term but my goodness this is risky.

I wonder what kind of insurance policy they take out on him

Word on the contract is $104.4 / 12 years / 8.7 million dollar cap hit

If this turns out to be true... Sid just did the Penguins and the city of Pittsburgh a huge favor. AACH doesn't change one bit
