Should the SEC adopt a 9 game conference schedule?

Coaches vote 13-1 to stay at eight SEC games

The B10 just recently moved to a 9 conference game schedule, and I know Saban was the only one that voted to move to a 9 game schedule in the SEC. It seems like an 8 game SEC schedule rewards some teams in the SEC much more than others. IIRC, Georgia only plays Alabama once every 5 seasons. Whereas Tennessee has Alabama every year. I know they won't change that, but one extra conference game would at least bring a Georgia v Alabama regular season game every 3-4 seasons, instead of 5. Same with other rivalries and non rivalry games in the SEC. It would also help eliminate games like Mercer from SEC teams schedule.

It depends, if the SEC goes to a 9 game conference schedule, is it gonna be less likely Georgia has marquee OOC matchups like the home and home with Notre dame given we have an annual rivalry game matchup with an OOC opponent?

Most years(next year we don't, and that sucks), Georgia plays 2 OOC P5 opponents. If we go to 9 games, and we ditch our future home and home with UCLA because we have to make room for Mississippi State, then I'm not for it at all.

No. The more OOC games the better for the sport. I wish all the conferences would go to 8 conference games.

USC and Stanford average 11 P5 opponents per regular season.

No. But they do need to get rid of divisions and rotate the majority of the teams every year so teams play each other more often and so they can take the 2 best teams in the conference for the championship game like the Big12 rather than "division champion" being the AQ.

And move to 2 P5 OOC minimum - but that would require help from other conferences.

I'm also guessing it depends on what you call average....How many P5 teams did Stanford play this year...including ND.

Why does the SEC hate playing their own conference members so much?

I really don't know the answer to this, but does the SEC play a better OOC schedule than the B10 who have 9 conference games? It seems like many SEC and B10 teams play 1 marquee OOC game, and the other OOC games are just "throw away" games.

Why does it bother you so much?

A team playing 9 game conference schedule has never won a natty. Fact.

Why does the rest of college football need the SEC to play more? Better chance our teams lose to another SEC team than your conference champion?

I should know this living down in Georgia, but who is your other OOC game against that would force you to ditch the UCLA game if you go to a 9 game conference schedule?

Gotta get that extra game against Mercer in to make sure you don't lose.

We play Georgia Tech every year to close the regular season. It's Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate, and it won't and shouldn't go anywhere.

I wish we still played CLemson every year too instead of a home and home every 10 years or so.

I think it would make the SEC more balanced, especially with the East being a train wreck right now (and for most of the past 6-8 years). Tennessee isn't going to get back anytime soon, Florida is starting over again, leaving UGA as the dominant team for the foreseeable future. Just my two cents.

That's just why divisions should go away, not a case for more conference games, aka just regionalising the game more when it needs to be more national.

As if we lack data points between conference members or something - we DON'T.

But the next 3 years (2018, 2019, 2020), your schedule has only 1 power 5 team on it (Georgia Tech), and one game against ND. It's not like you're trading a lot for another conference game. (although I didn't see what you have after 2020)
