The Cleveland Browns are in the process of starting to clean their roster before the Nov.1 NFL Trade Deadline. One of the best pieces of hardware available is OT Joe Thomas. Thomas has been in the league since 2006 and has never missed a game. He's 6'6" 312 lbs. He's been an All Pro several times.

The Browns are asking for a 2nd Round pick but I think they'd take less. Maybe a 3rd and 6th?

From BigKen's cheap seats, I'd give the second rounder, get Thomas here by Thursday, put him on the left side, put Vollmer back on the right and make him the line captain.

I don't think the Pats could do better than Thomas with a draft pick.

I know the Browns may well be in roster cleanup mode but Thomas has already stated that he does not want to be traded, as mystifying as that sounds. Also, his game has slipped somewhat over the last few years. That said, the Pats are thin at OT and another solid performer would be a welcome addition.

Funny you come on the Broncos board and get after them for suggesting a trade then talk about an unlikely one for the Patriots. The Browns have been one of the most difficult teams in the league to negotiate with so unlikely they would go off that 2nd round trade value. Throw in good chance the Patriots are picking in the mid to late 20's when it comes to the draft in each round so doubt they would take a 3rd considering it would be viewed at this point as a 4th round pick. Also Thomas' contract is cheap at least compared to others at his position that play at his caliber so I doubt they want less than a 2nd.

One final note last year the Browns were wanting 2 1st round picks. I do question the report that they are looking for a 2nd round pick. I don't think his value has fallen that much in a year. My guess is it would still take a 1st round pick to get him.

I had to laugh at this. BK's homerism has no ceiling.

As for Thomas, he is under contract through 2018. Owed $10m for 2017 and 2018.

BK is one of the bigger ones I know. Honestly it wouldn't shock me if the Pats did try to trade for Thomas. Position of need and a contract that really is somewhat team friendly. Yes he does cost $10 million a year but in LT money that really isn't bad especially considering Thomas is playing like a top-3 guy at the position still. Gives Brady a high quality starter for maybe the rest of his career. The big issue though is the compensation to get him. I've heard the rumor that it is a 2nd but I would bet they wouldn't give him up for less than a 1st round pick at this point. Too much talent to give up for less than that even with the Browns being a terrible team. Plus cap space wise there is no team in better shape than the Browns right now so that $10 million a year is just a drop in the bucket at this point.

BK is cool but when it comes to the Pats, you have to take him with a grain of salt. Not objective.

If what I read is correct,. the Pats are pretty much the only team who could swing the trade.

"Florio adds the chances the Browns move Thomas are lower than they were a year ago, and teams’ cap space in taking on Thomas’ contract will be an issue. The 6-foot-6 blocker does not have any guaranteed money left on his deal and will make $10MM in 2017 and ’18. As Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap points out (Twitter link), teams would only need to possess around $4.9MM in 2016 cap space to trade for Thomas. The Giants and Patriots are safely under that mark, while the Seahawks (at $5.931MM) are to a lesser degree. Both the Vikings (league-low $426K in cap space) and Cardinals ($2.171MM) aren’t."

Joe Thomas Trade Again On Table

So, if you trade for Thomas.....I guess you move Solder to RT.

Yeah any time you look at a trade like this you have to factor in quite a few things...

1) Mid-season trades don't happen often for quite a few reasons. The only teams that usually make them though are the teams in the running that think they are maybe one player away from being able to get a Championship. So teams still realistically in the playoff running would even consider this.

2) Then you factor in cap space of which teams still in the playoff hunt actually have the cap space to take on such a contract. $4.9 million isn't bad but it eliminates probably any team with less than $8 million in cap space at this time. So that is 17 of the 32 teams gone just from the cap space side of things.

3) Then you have to look at actual position need. Of the teams not out because of cap space that are still in the running most of them have an established LT. So that means there isn't quite the bidding war you would hope for as a team and at that point the value they try to offer you just isn't enough to justify letting such a talented player go. That is partly why so few mid-season trades actually happen.

I picked up the Thomas availability on CBS Sports. I didn't just make it up like the trade for Dickerson of the Jets.
According to ESPN, Joe Thomas is available for something. The Patriots can pick up about $4.5 of cap space by dumping the human turnstile Marcus Cannon. That would put them somewhere in the $9.9M available money position. I may be a Pats fan but I don't make up trades that benefit my team, that the other team would never make.

I can't walk around for another 10 days. All I do is watch TV, surf the web and listen to sports radio. The only break I can take is a bathroom break. The hole in my foot is finally starting to heal and close. As soon as that is done, I'll be getting schedule for heart surgery and another 10-14 days on my ass.

This trade for Richardson for the Broncos isn't coming out of nowhere though. It was discussed on a legit Broncos site as a possible player the Broncos could be targeting. No there are no rumors about the Jets trying to move him but at this time of year what analyst/writers/media are trying to do is find players that hold value that could actually help out a contending team. Sheldon Richardson makes sense as he is on a losing team, has had locker room issues, off the field issues, and most likely isn't in the future plans of the team. Those are the types of players you are looking for which fits with Joe Thomas as well. Heck trade rumors for Joe Staley have been talked about even though nothing from the team.

At this time of year it is just fun to dream a bit of who your team might go out and get. In the end there is like a 2% chance that any of these type of trades actually happen. In the NFL we just don't see it very often. Still just fun to talk about. Same thing with the draft or FA in a lot of times it is just media people presenting an idea and fans talking about it when it doesn't always have a lot to actually back up the idea of it happening.

At least you have him (Thomas) for 2 1/2 years. My fellow Pats fans need to wake up and come to the reality that BB isn't going to match huge offers from bad teams. He never has. Those two will have to give "home town discounts." They have a ring. I never fault a NFL player going after the big $$$.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Thomas has no more guaranteed money left on his contract. So that means if you only want him as a 1-year rental then you can cut him with no dead money only costing the team around $5 million. That won't keep them from locking up other players if they want. The problem there though is giving up a 2nd or maybe even a 1st for a 9 game rental.

Fuck. I more than know what that is like. I was bed ridden for three months this time last year. Being a quadriplegic, I couldn't do shit but lay there and watch fucking TV. Fucking horrible! I'll never do it again. Death is better.

Browns are not trading him. Solder and Cannon have been fine. I would rather get someone who can get after the QB.

Wasn't sure where to put this but any thoughts on AJ Derby the TE for the Patriots? Looks like the Broncos just traded for him.

Good pass catching TE - really stood out in preseason.

Good to hear. That is something we have been missing so far this year with our offense. No real threat up the middle of the field so teams have been sitting on the outside passing game.

We get a 5th round pick from you. I'm not a fan of this. Trading with someone you'll face in the playoffs.

In the deal with Detroit, New England will exchange its sixth-round pick of the 2017 draft for the Lions' seventh-round slot, a source said.

LB Kyle Van Noy is a former second-round pick of the Lions in 2014 who has seven career starts -- all this season -- with 39 career tackles and one sack.

Real athletic, fast.
Yards after Catch kind of guy.
I am not a fan of this trade for only a 5th rounder.

You guys got a good deal.
